And that's the problem with the salary cap, it's preventing the club from giving younger players the opportunity to stake a claim in the first team when injuries clearly demand it. A player promoted from the academy should be exempt from the cap in the first season, then 50% of their salary exempt for the duration they are with the club.

No, no its not. Its amazing how quickly incorrect facts spread about the salary cap, and then become gospel
(d) A Club may seek prior dispensation in writing to the RSCM to exceed the Aggregate Liability by a specified amount. In making a decision, the RSCM will act reasonably, taking into account one or more of the following factors: (i) the Club’s Players being unavailable through injury, absence and/or termination, (ii) the Club’s intention to promote junior players who would otherwise be prevented from playing in a Salary Cap Relevant Match, (iii) player welfare (for example, where a Club would otherwise be prevented from playing a Player in a situation that means that the Club instead selects an injured Player to play or another Player whose Salary Cap Value is low enough for the Club to remain within the Cap but who might not be ready for 1st team duties, and (iv) other circumstances considered reasonable (by the RSCM, acting reasonably).
I also posted this on the other forum, but why let facts get in the way of a good moan

But he's played a lot at 6 and some at 1, presumably linked to being the modern 3rd pivot. That means that he's better equipped to play 6 for the firsts than anyone who's not injured.

That's very interesting. It seems to hint you can pay your senior players up to the full cap, then bring though as many kids as you like in the year and pay them whatever you like?

The key phrase is "within reason" - in our current situation, it is perfectly reasonable for us to request an exemption, should Charnock have appearance based triggers in his contract. What wouldnt be reasonable is if we tried to bring him through with no injuries, or, if a team tried to give of say £1m for the current season (which they were seeking exemption for) and then the player waiving his salary for the remaining 4 years of his contract (say).
It boils down to a case of "do the rfl think this exemption is helping a team in some way circumvent the cap or just necessary in rugby terms" - the latter is fine (and our situation with Charnock arguably)
We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.
Should be playing now , feel sorry for the kid , he prob don't no what he has do to get a game , ud think with all the injerys he be playing , how is he supost to get ready if he ant playing top level

Why? Because you reckon so? Surely to be playing he needs to impress the people who watch over and assess him every day, and know a lot more about junior development than you or I put together?
Whilst I'm pleased that we won't have to worry about Walsh on Friday, its sad that its caused by such a serious injury. He's been a real star this season and its been a real pleasure to watch him. Lets hope his recovery is a complete one and that he comes back as strong as ever.

I don't think he's ready and I don't think he will make it in super league at a top club. Just my opinion
