95% of the time I'm completely against running to the juniors for salvation. Everyone knows the reasons. I don't need to explain them. They are good, solid and soundly thought-out.HOWEVER, there are those rare, rare kids who instead of falling apart and having their confidence shattered forever somehow manage to THRIVE. What's more - they then crank it up a notch.
Had we waited until Keiron Cunningham was 20/21 until he made his debut - we'd have lost four of his best years because he was ready to play age 17. Savelio reminds me a lot of Keiron. He's probably three or four years away from full maturity but at his size today he's more than big enough.
Generally speaking, youngsters who exceed the curve are naturally big or fast maturers. But it's not just size and strength. Bobbie Goulding made the Wigan team age 17 not because he was a beast - but rather he was the smartest cookie in the box.
I'm struggling to think of kids who've been promoted early purely because they were quick. Maybe they have. I'm not sure. But I can't imagine they'd last long if they didn't have at least some physicality to back it up. Oh and balls of British Steel.
