Like Hull fans have already said, he is a good player, very elusive, safe with good hands, if he has recovered from his injury as he hasn't played a game in nearly a year he will do well for you.

Bad luck at hull with the timing of his injury and the emergence of Shaul. I hope he does well for you.

I can't decide how I feel about this.

On one hand, I'm glad the club is being proactive, but in the other I can't help but feel it's a bit of a waste.

Wellens for me has cemented his place at FB, so it seems pointless bringing him in when we have makinson and swift who can cover if wello is injured.

Not only that, if we have the cap space why haven't we brought in cover for the halves? We desperately need that. I don't think we desperately need cover at FB

I'm intrigued by this. I wonder if he's been brought in with a view to giving us more options in the left centre/wing channel. Our defence has been caught out there a lot lately with a partnership of two young'uns, so it might not hurt to have a bit more experience around for a while.

Would he come here if he thought he was only going to get a game if wellens gets injured, or has he been promised more? Maybe lomax isn't seen as our long term solution at full back? He hasn't set the world alight this year, and persistent injuries limit his time on the pitch. Maybe McDonnell is being looked at as wellens long term replacemt? Lomax to the goons as bowens replacement.

Why on earth would we let Wigan sign Lomax?? He's under contract to 2017 and selling lomax and replacing him with McDonnell is pretty much the opposite of McManus' start of season rants...

Now if you had said were looking at McDonnell as the long term full back solution with lomax moving to 6 ...

My guess is he sees it ax a chance to put himself in the shop window. Going nowhere at hull, needs to get playing to get flubs interested in him again. I for one had completely forgotten about him. Works for both sides really. Probably come to saints on the cheap to get noticed and hopefully get a decent job offer for next year

Good move from saints, excellent cover to have if we can get him fit.

Have a sneaky feeling he'll be very important to us in keeping Wellens fresh for the big games.

And that is my point. Unless Wellens gets injured, which he rarely does, then he is unlikely to get game time. If he wanted to be in the shop window, he would have been better at Bradford or London for a few months where he may have had a better chance of being on the pitch.

One reason, £££££s

Wigan would have to be a fair wodge to get Lomax, we get McDonnell for free, and have a player who offers very similar quality to Lomax, without the incessant injuries. Win/win situation.

If McDonnell had similar quality to Lomax then Hull would never have binned him off.
