Albion, you may think it harsh, but things like this need to be stepped on immediately if we're to protect the image of the game.
Ferres's tackle was awful, but its a physical sport were our lads play as hard as they can, its inevitable that the line is accidently crossed.

When I first started playing open age RU, one of the lads at my club got a season ban for using the C word at the ref.

Its a good point, its not even the particular phrase used. The fact he swore at a ref should have seen him sent off

Just as an aside, do you not think that in the heat of the moment, when saying something completely reactionary and without thinking, you revert to a term that is part of your common language?

Regardless of how angry or frustrated I get, using the N word to insult someone (for example) would never enter my head as it's not a word I use.

That to me says that Hardaker has used the F** insult before and his apology is more "sorry I got caught". I don't think the RFL should consider a his apology as mitigation when banning him.

I surprised the ref didn’t send him off unless he didn’t hear it but i doubt that... Maybe he said it when the ref wasn’t looking. I feel for the apposing team as that was a red. WE ARE NOT FOOTBALL this stuff has no place in our game, you only speak to the ref if your're spoken to.

In his "apology" statement Hardaker confirms the ref heard him and was offended.

Seems like Ablett also uses the phrase "F***ing Bulls***" towards the ref, too.
Weak officiating.

A yellow card each and they won't look so clever AND they won't do it again.

The key difference is whether they swear at the decision or the ref. people dispute decisions when they're full of testosterone and adrenalin. That happens and as a ref you deal with it sensibly. However, hardaker abuses the ref, not the decision. That goes to the heart if a very important principle in our game, which is to accept the authority of the referee, and to maintain respect. He deserves a lengthy ban.

Which doesnt apply in the sports world when he would be in a Wigan, Saints , Bradford etc shirt a week later. Leeds would be the only ones to lose out.

He will get and deserves a ban, sadly I'm sure some people will continue to make a massive issue out of it (even after he has been punished), probably people who've said much worse to people in their own lives and no doubt screamed far worse abuse on the terraces.

I agree it was poor officiating. Hardaker should have got a straight red and Ablett at the very least should have been marched back 10 and warned
