Powell played over twenty times for GB, and that was at the time we had the likes of Edwards, Schofield, Connolly, Newlove, Davies, Bateman etc, etc, etc. vying for places,
He was good player who played well at International level, or maybe the know it alls know more than the likes of Malcolm Reilly and the other International coaches who selected Powell.
He was a steady plodder who could tackle, I never understood how he kept some far better players of of the GB team. There have been plenty average players over the years who have played internationally for one reason or another (normally the reason was signing for Wigan). Quite alot of them played for Wigoon e.g. Mick Cassidy , Neil Cowie, Ian Lucas

Mick Cassidy never played for GB, Neil Cowie played three times. Ian Lucas was a good young prop who sadly got his career ended through a disgraceful tackle whilst playing for GB in Australia.
Powell was a good player and that is why he was selected by the likes of Mal Reilly and Ellery Hanley, but what would they know about International RL?

I was a Powell fan to be honest. He was a pretty clever classy player in his early days and had a great understanding with mark Ashton at Sheffield.
He did a good job as a stand off or centre.
As he got older, he changed his game a lot to adapt to being slower etc. he become a tough hard working 13 and was pretty good in that role for Leeds.

I think he's a good coach as well.
+1 There were rumours about him coming to Wigan, and I would have loved him to, but alas it never happened.
He wasn't the quickest (neither was Johnny Walsh, my favourite Saints player) but he had a great rugby brain and superb worth ethic, and like you I do think he will go on to be a very good coach.

Cassidy got selected for GB but didnt get a shirt and rightly so although he did play for England and Ireland. Lucas was average at best and Cowie was terrible but like quite a few others was made to look good by the fact he was playing part timers and was surrounded by class players.

This bit I do agree with and I wouldnt have minded him being given a crack at Saints. He was treated harshly at Leeds and have been excellent at Fev. Sadly he is now turning Cas around while we seem to be sinking
Their pack is ordinary, halves slow, Chase is their only threat and backs nothing to shout about. Get it sorted and you'll will win there.
It's funny because I watch Cas most weeks and, to take your points one by one: Our pack is nothing special. However players like Huby, Walker, Millington, Hauraki, Thompson, Massey, Holmes, Mason and Boyle are all willing to work hard. In fact, we have come out on top of both Hull FC and Wigan's pack in the last two games. Chase is actually our only threat at half back, but teams have been trying to stop him for years without success. In fact, at the moment we are literally playing with only him at half back. In attack, Tansey joins the line from full-back and has been instrumental in many of our best attacking moves. As for the backs, Shenton is still one of the best defensive centres in the league - I have seen very few teams score down the channel that he and Hauraki defend. Justin Carney has been excellent for us when he has played (shame about the seven games he has been suspended for!). We do lack another centre but Dixon has been reliable there with Owen (who had his best two games this year v Hull and Wigan) playing on his outside. I'm not saying we are world beaters, but we are better than you suggest.

This is key. This is the massive difference between your team and mine. And ultimately this is why you will win and we won't! At the end of the day either one of us could have a team of superstars but if they didn't work hard then they wouldn't win many games. Likewise, either one of us could have a team full of average joes but if they worked hard they would give themselves a damned good chance of winning games. I've no idea whether Saints is a side made up of average joes with a couple of very good players or what but one thing I do know is that they don't work hard. The odd individual will, but not the whole team at the same time. Cas look transformed in this way from the start of the season.

To be fair judging by his post he must be one of 3 things....
1. Went to the game and has a less than basic understanding of RL
