I genuinely don't think Meli's was expecting to be tackled because the ball had gone away from him. There's plenty replays of it and it's definitely behind him when he's 'tackled'.

Just watched the Meli/Tomkims incident back on Sky. Meli ran completely past the ball and the ball was about a yard behind him when contact was made.

Tomkins went for the tackle, Meli went for the contact. Pretty much equal in the grand scheme of things and neither side deserved a penalty.

Now I've just watched the Tomkins/Matty Smith moment.

Tomkins touches the ball and spills it, at which point Matty Smith is stood OUTSIDE the in goal area. Matty Smith then comes back from an offside position and kicks the ball dead whilst Soliola is bearing down.

By the letter of the law that is a professional foul which should be a penalty try and a sin bin for Smith. However, I can see how it was missed.

The second point above happens twice in the game. Once from the kickoff and then again from a grubber in the first half.

I can see why a penalty try would have been given, but I can see why one wouldn't as well.

Originally I thought Smith was in the in-goal and was bemused as to why he just didn't pick it up resulting in a drop out.

Sin bin I'd probably agree with, penalty try? Never in a million years!

They got a penalty I think in the next set and then scored, same thing really so yeah.
Whether they did or didn't though never a penalty try.

I thought it was a nailed on penalty try and a 10 minute sin bin. I suppose it makes up for your first try which (as shown on sky after the game) wasn't grounded.

There should of been 3 or 4 sin bins for professional fouls, I'm surprised Makinson just before Wigans first try hasn't been mentioned, none were given, at least Silverwood was consistent. There seems to have been a reluctance to hand out the yellow for a professional foul in recent seasons.
