YEh that threw me for ages, I thought we had Gaskell till 2014 when he signed in 2011, I think I found it in the star eventually.

He can indeed, the post you quoted though I was under the impression we had him for 2014, as it turns out we don't. However, if he's happy with his involvement at Saints he will definitely stay, I know Wigan have had an interest in the past so I'm sure you'll be sniffing around. Also, if we offer him a contract better than his current one and he still goes to you, you will have to pay a fee.

Paying a fee hasn't been a problem for Wigan. And it would be a minimal fixed fee as he is out of contract.

I was referring to the concept rather than the individual clubs, although as you know I have always rated Gaskell highly. If however we approached Wheeler again I would be very disappointed.

I think it's either 15k/25k can't remember which. Although I'm pretty sure in the next couple of years you'll be getting a big cheque for Sam so can't see that being an issue.

How long would you expect it to be before Hampshire and Williams come through, will Wigan still be interested in Gaskell with Smith and Green currently at the club until your younger halves are of age?

Hopefully two to three years. IMO (and I'm an opinionated barsteward) Gaskells biggest asset would be his versatility. He can play 1, 6. 7 and probably 13 and centre.

Hampshire is a natural 6, but may move to 1. Williams is a 7, but may lack the natural pace for that position and could move to 9.

All supposition of course.

Hampshire looked really s lick in those videos of Engkand's kids down under. He looked like a first receiver though, which would lend him to being more of a 7, wouldn't it?

He's played all his rugby at 6 from Normanton Knights, his high school side, Wigan U16 and u18. I suppose it will depend on how the coaches want to use him.

He has superb pace, finishing 4th in fastest player comp last year at 17 years of age and that's why I have a feeling that the fullback position may suit him.

However I have noticed in the friendly games this season that he does appear to be shouting the players into position and calling the moves.

Makinson has real potential to be star but he needs the right coach and i believe we might have him now.

Fingers crossed we can get Gaskell to sign an extension. Just need him to grab the chance and run with it now.
