Flannery has been absolutely woeful for a long time now, but to his credit he played well in the last two games and deserves a place for me.

Yes, and why do we have to keep wearing the same kit for every home game, and playing at the same stadium? It's really boring. Why do we always have the same name all the time? Dull, dull, dull.

For me the absolute ideal would be to have our best 17 available every single week and play the same players every single week. Change is the enemy of consistency. Saints did best when we had the same key players in the same key positions for about 10 years. So yes please let's be as boring as possible in our team selection.

Wow. Just wow.

I've never seen or heard anybody state that having a settled team is anything but a good thing.

Is it just me or do Saints play really dull rugby? I watched the match from Sunday back tonight. I was bored at the game - not the first time by far this season - and so I thought if I watched it from a side on view maybe that would make it more interesting. But I found us as boring from the side as I did from the front. We are so predictable and so lacking in any form of inventiveness. I saw more inventiveness in the Wakey side on Monday night.

I even find the team selection boring. It's the same every week. Completely predictable.

I've not been bored since Mick Plodder left. I thought the game was pretty decent on sunday

Woah, I can kind of see where Saintsfan is coming from in regards to our style of play. We're not as entertaining to watch as previous Saints sides. I think this is partially down to the players we have and the poor options we pick because of it. Lomax and Hohaia are very hit and miss in the halves and whilst Hohaia is playing well at the moment, he hasn't had a good season whereas Lomax was playing well early doors but is playing poorly at the moment. Hopefully they'll both get it together when it matters. If you then add in Wellens as the 3rd link man, the ball dies alot when it gets to him. This is partially due to slow service from the halves, but also because Wellens is too slow at reacting and slipping the pass. It's very frustrating at times. If those 3 could get it right the edge men will get alot more joy and we'll be more fun to watch especially as the forwards are starting to offload the ball more freely than they were.

.

Sums it up well that does. We are a little short on quality in key positions , hopefully with coaching and possibly recruitment we'll fix that.

I don't think having a settled team and having a team that only plays the most predictable rugby going is the same thing really, and it is the latter issue I was referring to. It is good to have a settled team but if that team has been royally smashed by the league leaders after losing to them twice already, in part because they can read our play as easy as a Year 1 reading book, surely during a period of stability there is opportunity to explore options? It is better to explore options during stability than having no choice but to do so due to injury, like last year.

I was just hoping for a modicum of invention. But there was none. Even Wilkin kicked the same hail mary efforts on almost every final tackle. Or so it seemed anyway.

We know exactly what our options are though, due to past problems the vast majority of our squad have had experience. We've still only lost to Wigan and only one of those times were comprehensive. With Hohaia, Perry and Shenton starting to come into a bit of form I'm far more confident of getting a result this time round.

I don't find our play boring, it's safe but not boring. We've scored the 4th most tries in the league so it's obviously producing. You say you're sick of boring rugby, yet I've seen you outraged when players make mistakes, you can't have outrageous mistake free rugby so it's impossible to please you.

Indeed. I still get to see some of the preposterously ill-informed nonsense as though through an echo but my sanity (and my poor aching sides) are at least a little protected by not being exposed to it directly anymore ;)
