Makinson is a very good young player who does all the basic stuff well but very rarely gives defences too many difficulties yet. He doesn't threaten the opposition even nearly enough considering the pace he occasionally shows himself as having even taking into account the windswept barren waste that is Saints' right flank. He
may go on to develop into a top player but is a long way off being that yet - basic statistical analysis of the careers of similar players at similar stages of their careers from the past shows that he's more likely ultimately not to make it than otherwise. Foster had a far, far,
far more impressive first season in the vee than Makinson has had and look how that's turned out. Dozens of other Saints kids that subsequently disappeared without trace did too: Stewart, Arnold, Fairclough, Devine, Stankewicz etc. etc. etc. I laugh out loud at the numpties on here who seem to have convinced themselves that he's the second coming of Albert already despite the almost complete lack of any supporting evidence (besides the fact that he clearly has some pace, which is the only attribute that your average numpty is able to recognise in any player, and the obvious reason why he has attained such worshipped status) - he just simply isn't yet, and probably never will be. He's more likely to be wearing a Widnes, Salford or Leigh shirt than a GB or Saints one in 5 years' time sadly - it's just a simple fact of life with young players.
As usual, a reality check and some perspective is necessary. Not bleedin' likely in the fantasy imagination of the average Saints RLFans' poster I know, but you can still dream...
