He has, and that's why many defend so vigourously.

His form has been up and down this year, but I felt he was settling into a decent rythm as the team got itself together post Quins defeat.

However, the last month or so he looks like he's really struggling. I reckon a couple of niggles are making it look worse, but, as Saddened says, in Wigan's heyday, even the best players would have the day when Auntie Mo would convince them it was time to move on. Unless a real upturn in form proves me wrong, I think that's what should really be happeneing come the end of this season.

Next year we have Hohaia coming, who in my opinion should be playing #1. We also have Mackinson and Ashe in reserve, as well as the possibility of Lomax ending up there. If we hold on to him for sentimental reasons, it will be to the detriment of the squad.

Taken out of context your honour. If you see my other posts on Wello, they are all very positive and constructive. I love the man to pieces and would have his children. I'd donate him a kidney if he needed one. I'd lend him my car or my wife anytime.

BUT, there comes a time in professional sport when the body betrays the man. And it's happening to Wello now and it's excrutiating to watch.

This is not having a dig or troll btw as anybody who was with us on that 2008 tour will tell you, it was discussed at length whilst over there.

I agree with Saddened! and Offside Monkey. Wello's a legend for the club, but his time has come and gone now.

Quite. I'll buy him a drink whenever I see him and chat about the good old times - like seeing him celebrating after the WCC win over brisbane with his face swollen from a broken cheek.

I wonder whether a couple of week without him may convince others of this case.

The first time whoever plays fullback next week misses a tackle or drops a high ball, the first thing said will be 'Wellens would have tackled/caught that' no matter whether recent form means he would or wouldn't.

The massively increased yardage we will get will be ignored.

But that isn't surprising considering how fickle sports fans can be. An old bloke next to me came out with a classic after Lomax knocked on in the Hull game- 'He's bloody awful that Lomax, get Eastmond on!'. Full marks to him for going against the norm I suppose.

EDIT - I can't confirm if it was Saddened! or not, but I suppose that pessimism can certainly speed up the ageing process
