I agree with the chair that we are probably comfortable under the cap, and saying otherwise is for the reasons he has mentioned. As for our youngsters, as far as skill goes Lomax looks a gem to me, and if the lad's luck changes, Wheeler too. After that we have Gaskell, who is a year behind those two in development and has done well thrown in before he was expecting. Foster looks good, but not great, i agree with Rogues that their young lad Charnley is a better winger. Makinson also has done well in his first season and has a lot of promise. After that we have the likes of Ashe, who has been well hyped but hasnt had the time in the team yet. What we need is some quality forwards in our youth team. Wigan have brought through alot recently, and after Cloughy we've been sorely lacking there IMO
I think a lot of saints fans get carried away with our youngsters. IMO only lomax has half a chance of making it to be good player and I have my doubts with him.
OK so you are now the chairman, which ENGLISH players do you propose we get to replace full back, centre, 2 props and of course the ridiculously over hyped Lomax, not forgetting Gaskell and Foster?
I think sometimes people listen to our pink and white spec wearing wigin friends a little too much.

Listen mate, if I was the chairman we wouldn't be needing all these players at once. It's called planning ahead. As I've said it's over a period of 5 years the recruitment has been poor, not just this year or for next year but for the last 5 years!
How many clubs only have one reconised centre at the club? None, we've had it since talau went.
It's keeping the likes of Gardner, meli, flannery, wello to long and not replacing them over a period of time. Meli should of gone two years ago and replaced, flannery shouldn't have got his 1 year deal and replaced and so on.
Instead we've kept these type of players and they have got old and all need replacing at once now.

In simple terms, plan ahead.
what do you think they have been doing? if you want good examples of not planning look at Warrington OR Leeds they really will be up the creek over the next 2-3 years when all their 30 yr olds drop off.
Gardner will be replaced by Makison - and before you or anybody else screams the "we need pace" mantra - I would suggest we sign Penny if that is teh criteria. Meli is STILL one of our strike options and his scoring rate is way up there - true we havent effectively replaced Talau but then Wigin are trying to convince themselves that Joel is the great white hope in centres, and when Carmont goes they will have 0 centres. Flannery is a solid hardworking 2nd rower who we miss dreadfully when he isnt in the middle of the park.
Wellens is still probably the best British full back in the british game - true he is getting to the end of his career but when he is on - there is no one better.
Over the last 5 years we have lost - Joynt, Lyon, Long, Sculthorpe, Cunningham - any team would struggle to replace one of these (all of whom are hall of fame players) yet we have done this job quietly and efficiently. I cannot believe the dummy spitting going on because we aren't winning everything like in 2006 - that team was unique we are rebuilding get over it.
Don't want to scare you guys but I have heard on the vine that apart from the names in the domain right now you will be making some huge space on your Cap next year and we at The All Stars will be getting one of the British games best players with a large part of the Take That gate going your way.
Who was the last player Saints sold? PROBABLY Gary Connolly in the late 80's (can't exactly remember). Big Mac has never sold a player and anyway if you listen to St Pete we dont have any players the wolfs would want. You at the all stars are going to make some difficult decisions over the next 2 years like replace piggy, your entire front row and full back - good lucK

I think Saints have managed our transition very well. Granted, we probably need another mature prop (as opposed to a young up and coming, who will hopefully get a chance next season as well). But other than that we don't need anyone else for next season.
we need to put our transition in context. Wigan nearly got relagated, the bulls are struggling to get in the 8, leeds struggling for top 6 and we're 4th after being decimated by injuries in key positions and the eastmond afair leaving us without our first choice halfback pairing yet this season!
[quote='Fishsta"']I've always thought of McGuire as a good player, and I wouldn't normally wish injury on any player, but there was a certain hint of poetic justice to that.

Another classic:
[quote='Fishsta']You forgot to take off the "Saints Reduction Factor" when calculating the ban.
Standard suspension / Saints Reduction Factor = Actual ban for Saints player.
Therefore (2 / 3) = 0.666
0.666 < 1 therefore actual ban equals "less than 1 match".
