Re: Josh Perry : Wed Nov 17, 2010 7:01 pm
I've had a look at Perry's stats from his NRL years and they are hardly jaw dropping.

Based on metres per game (for props only) he ranked as the following for each year.

2010 51st - 83.2m
2009 56th - 78.6m
2008 28th - 101m
2007 60th - 82.9m
2006 33rd - 104.6m
2005 27th - 118.4m
2004 34th - 106.1m
2003 21st - 112.4m
2002 46th - 92.3m
2001 57th - 88.2m

Since 1998 he is ranked 234th overall in props in m/game with 88.2m and has average 10 carries per game which ranks him 334th over the same period.

Defensively he has averaged 21 tackles per game making him 235th overall over the same time frame amongst props.

You have to bear in mind that hookers and some second row forwards e.g. Hindmarsh, are included in the front row category so temper those stats with that thought.

If anyone is interested in scouting other NRL stats since 1998 you can do so at the link below.

In his defence, he is remarkably consistent. Consistently mediocre maybe, but still consistent.

Re: Josh Perry : Wed Nov 17, 2010 7:47 pm
Last season - Bryn Hargreaves average 75m per game, Jacob Emmitt averaged 82m per game and LMS averaged 93m. Not great statistics for Perry as you say but an improvement on Hargreaves and Emmitt (I've not bothered with Fa'asavalu or Fozzard as they didn't feature much) and he was playing in a stronger competition. LMS is certainly an improvement on those two also. What we'll get from both is good, solid players who will improve us. I still think Puletua and Graham will be our go to players in the front row though.

In an interview shortly after signing for us he said that he saw his job as getting under opposition front rowers' skins and being an intimidating presence. That's something you can't measure in stats, and something our pack has lacked since Scully and Hooper moved on.

Who cares? I'm looking forward to watching him greet his sparring partner at Leeds next season!

So long as he keeps the big blokes occupied so that Jammer can (a) be relieved of some of the burden and (b) execute some of those sublime passes of his then I'll be very happy to have him in our team.

Sometimes it isn't all about stats.

Spot on. I'm just about about sick of seeing us go to pieces as soon as Leeds puff their chests out, especially considering some of the tough packs we have had in the past. It'll probably cost us with discipline in some games, but at the end of the day we need a couple of players like Perry and LMS when the going gets tough. I'm sure the board recognised that when signing them.

I asked on a manly forum about what we were getting. He appears to of had varying seasons.
When on form, he "really eats up the metres", which he apparently was doing a couple of years ago when they won the premiership. His for since has been sketchy, but the fans that had knew him think we'll be pleased with what we get. He also has the odd bellringing tackle in him too, apparently.

I've posted before, I think what were getting is a better version of Ryan Bailey. It'll be good to have a bit of yard dog in the side.

I think Jammer, Ted, LMS, Tony P and (in support) Cloughy will do a very good job at sharing the load up front. With a (fingers crossed) fit Soliola in the backrow aswell, out pack certainly has alot more biff in it next year.

I've just seen Soliola in cineworld and he's not limping yet! So far so good.
