From a very reliable source, Saints did talk to Griffin and he was going to sign for us, however Saints pulled out of the deal at the last minute

I doubt it's true however since the Griffin to Leeds rumours started about April this year.

Maybe they entered discussion with no intention other than to push Leeds's offer up and hamper their squad building, or guage their financial clout for if we come up against them for someone we need/want more?

I was told one Monday night in my local pub by a bloke who is good friends with Griffin (and had played golf with him that day) that he was travelling across on the Thursday of that week to sign the contract, then he text me on Wednesday morning saying Saints had withdrawn offer
