Do people think Matty Bowen is too small to be fullback? Apparently he's 5'7''. Quinlan is down as 5'8''.
Nope, but Bowen's like of size was what probably prevented him from playing more rep games. I suppose playing in a golden era of Australian won't have helped much either.
If Quinlan were six inches taller I'm pretty sure he'd be playing first grade NRL and not languishing in the reserves.
I mean, you don't see too many high-jumpers who are 5'3 in the Olympic Finals so it's not unreasonable to think that height might just be a limiting factor at full-back.

I agree, but 5'8'' is hardly Time Bandits size though. Billy Slater is 5'10''.
The funny thing is, that 6'7 winger is gash under the high ball.
He doesn't have to be great. All he needs do is palm the ball backwards. A catch isn't necessary. The point is - Quinlan can't get there. Bear in mind - the attacker invariably has forward momentum. Which makes it doubly difficult for a small guy.
It's quite surprising when you have a look, how many SL fullbacks are under 6 foot tall. Matty Russell, Bowen, Grix...other people will be able to reel a few more names off.
