I just don't get it though.

How can a person who comes from St.Helens have a go at their home town team,it really baffles me.

Don't get me wrong I know some people from this area who support Wigan and Warrington but I don't get it.

Hey Sad One pin your ears back and listen.

It would have been easy to support Liverpool or Everton, but no it has always been West Ham United in football and I even worked worked/represented a few Manchester City players, I have supported the Hammer through thick and thin and always will.

Regards rugby league, I used to be on the ground at 1pm for afternoon 3pm kick off's as a youngster to make sure I could get on the wall in the kids paddock in front of the old club house, used to use all my pocket money to go to a photographer in George Street to get photo's, but when I moved into being more deeply involved with rugby league I saw the club from a different angle. In Radio I fought for coverage of League which was a battle even though I was on the management team, even got the radio station to sponsor a game and that was the most embarrassing day in my life! taking some of our top advertisers some from London.

I Believe in expansion! I had an interview with Mr Maurice Lindsay but I am glad I was never offered the job but I respect the way then pushed our game at least people started to hear about the game, unlike these days? So it seemed appropriate to my money were my mouth was with London, that was my choice, no one else's and no regrets, back to the thread I just worry if Sky ever pulls out and people knock me down about this, then were do we go? back to semi professional and how do we keep the young kids then in our Great Game? the problem has always been far too many people supporters are simply Parochial and do not see a wider picture. I do not hate Saints! I try to be constructive, just don't support them.

This is a fans discussion board, not a job application. We don't really need to hear your CV thanks.

Well done on what you've done for the game in all fairness, can't knock that.

We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Why would a supporter of say Huddersfield, ever support the demotion of their club for the planting of a club in say Coventry.

Only supporters who feel untouchable would ever support such a move.

The problem is the sport is becoming a business and any competitive on the field achivements are negated for structural growth.

It's all well and good saying to supporters your club should wither for the greater good. But whose greater good, not that of the supporters whose club is no longer in the top flight and likely never to return.

If you like try taking your TV away from your family and give it to a family in a far flung corner of the globe, then place a restriction on your family getting another TV.

It's the same thing, it expands the geographical availabilities of TV, but does not grow the game in numbers or increase the TV choice for those left with no TV.

If you want expansion you need to allow for growth through promotion as well. No one wants a sport that is not based on sporting prowess but simply structural rules.

Or we may as well pack up and go home. RL is a sport first, business 2nd. As are most sports.

Whilst in principle I'd agree with the sentiment of such a statement, especially at the Community level of the game it's a sport, the reality is that at the professional level of the game people are involved in RL not only because the love the sport but it offers them a way of avoiding the 9-5 drudge of real life, until they retire or go semi-pro and join the rest of society with "propa jobs".

All Sports at the higher echelons these days are business whether we wish them to be or not.

I disagree with some things you say, but that I fully agree with.

Unfortunately.

I can agree with better marketing. No issues with that, but that's not down to fans. Fans by their nature (fan - short for fanatic) are perochial and are club first sport 2nd.

Again no problems with sports as a business, but when the sporting element comes so far down the pecking order of importance that the outsider, the underdog, the over achiever can't get a foot in the door, it just takes away any sporting interest (which in effect reduces the business oppertunities.)

If we want to expand then through out all current clubs bar Leeds and Hull, Then just have 12 city clubs, liverpool, birmingham, norwich, edinburgh , dublin etc and then see how long the sport survives with no real base.

You may wish a sport spread, but forcing it will not get paying fans to watch or subscribers to tune in.

Todd carney hasnt got a chance of getting over considering he was refused a visa when agreeing a three-year contract with Huddersfield.
