For people getting on Browns back, what would you do with this current squad?
(I'm not saying he's not to blame for some things this year but the squad is awful)
I dont think I am getting on Browns back but there are things that I thought he would and could do that would enable us to actually compete with a weakened side.
the first area for me is the complete lack of defensive structure. At Hudds he got something of a reputation for introducing 3 and 4 man tackles that allowed the defenders more time to get off and slow the play the ball down. I really thought he would introduce that here. It looked at one point like he had (I think it was Widnes away) but I havent seen it since. If we slow down the opposition we have an easier job defending the next play - its just a process. He also needs to work with individuals to get them to number up correctly - this season there have been shocking displays of this - if you dont number up it then leaves either big gaps either side of the centres or 3 people running at the winger - there are some on here who want to blame the winger for this when the real culprit is somewhere else in the line.
So you have sorted out the defence. Next thing is giving field position too easily. So work out why we are giving penalties (quite likely because we are being stretched defensively) and reduce those and work out clear simple strategies for getting out of your own half. So we cut down on giving the opposition cheap posession in our half.
Honestly that would be enough to have seen us win a number of the games we have lost closely - its not good enough to win us any trophies but is a platform that we can start to build attack on.
Really I think that is coaching 101 and I cannot understand why it hasnt been done.
the rest of the crap he does with constantly tinkering with positions isnt helping us one bit - but i could live with that right now if he could reduce how easy it is at times for the opposition to get to our line and score.
