Speaking to a few Saints fans recently, the general feeling is that they are getting bored with Superleague, bored with RL in general and more importantly bored with St Helens.
Its strange how winning games easily, winning the comp year after year can become boring, but somehow for a number of Saints fans it is.
At least one thing you can say as a Wigan fan is that there is never a dull moment and if nothing else its "interesting".
Though there is a certain degree of apathy that comes with expecting to win/comfortably every week I suspect the boredom many of us are feeling at present is more down to the way the game seems to have changed over the last few seasons and with that how teams (and obviously Saints in particular) have been playing as a result.
I really thought that this year, with the coaching change and the supposedly weaker squad/kids we might have seen much more competition from several other teams who seemed to be progressing better. But to find ourselves still top of the league after playing some frankly dire rugby seems to suggest everyone else has playing equally as poorly.
With not having Sky and disliking the BBC's 'coverage' I haven't seen a great deal of other teams games this season but I'll wager that we haven't seen a hell of a lot of open and expansive rugby when compared to say 2006, I know we haven't at Saints.
Why we tried to emulate the Aussie game a decade late, just when their style began to show signs of paralleling ours I'll never know, but it certainly seems to have seen a reversal in entertainment terms and I think we will continue to suffer as fans and an international team until we stick to playing our own way.
