Why not just keep hold of Dougie Charnock & forget about Tommy Lee? Typical bargain bin saints signing. I think we are addicted to signing cast offs and trying to make the old dog do back flips. Garbage Saints as usual
This type of signing is fine but only after you've got the couple of big ones in the bag you need.
It's not ideal that it looks to have come out because had it been announced after you confirmed a couple of signings that would excite people everyone would say he's a solid squad player.
He wasn't even one of the big names in the Salford "Deviloution" announcement a few years ago, he, jason walton and greg johnson were the chaff that came with, smith, chase, morley et al.
You know what, as a wire fan, i've took the high ground and not been too amused at the 'transitional' period saints are going through, but this is pretty poop, and hard not to laugh at.
Astonishing in announcing this before there are better signings confirmed and the last 2 matches to play. What can they be thinking. I've already decided not to renew but this decision and the May it's been mismanaged only helps to reaffirm my position.

My thoughts exactly, the club have messed up the development of quite a few younger players and Charnock is one of them, always puts in a solid performance when wearing the No 9 shirt and should have been coached towards improvement.
Lets be honest, if Kevin Brown and Tommy Lee are two of our 5 signings this year, with the potential that Matty Smith could be the third, I really do think that the club have completely lost touch with its fan base.

Smith is not coming to Saints.

Tommy Lee IS a good signing for Saints, coming from someone who has seen plenty of him over the last few seasons. Here's why;
1. He's a workhorse. If it wasn't for his injuries in 2015 and 2016, he would be Super League top tackler without a doubt. At both points in the season up until his injury he was leading this. 2. He's solid and dependable. Rarely have I seen him have a "poor" game in a Salford shirt and is very consistent. 3. Versatility. Whilst he is a hooker he can also cover at half-back and do a stint at 13 if need be. Crucial asset over the course of a season. 4. Has a very good kicking game for a hooker, which Salford don't utilise enough.
I can understand why his signing would be met with disapproval, but I can see the logic. The only down side I can see is his injury record. He has had two lengthy injuries over the last two seasons which is the reason we're getting shut. We just cant afford to carry him on the cap anymore.
With all that said and done what with Tasi, Theo and Lee you're assembling quite a group of Salford rejects

Matty Smith won't be the third.
Piecing together all I've been told, I would say we're looking to/ are bringing in:
Brown, Lee, Lewis, <centre>, <prop>
With question marks over the future of Turner, Burns, Walsh, Wilkin, Vea, LMS, SMD, Dawson, Carnock and Savelio at the club.
There are still ways for this to be a positive recruitment period, however disappointing the first step is.

I wish I shared your optimism. The club should be focussed on getting Lewis and <centre> <prop> signed and announced so that we can make our own mind up about the short term direction of the team. Given the disgruntled feeling amongst fans, i just have the feeling that its a complete PR disaster IMO.
I know they are trying desperately to offload Burns from the final year of his contract and much will depend on what happens at Leigh. Walsh is definately gone. Wilkin has signed a new one year deal, and the rumour is that LMS has too. Turner has been completely stripped of his confidence and it wouldnt surprise me to see him leave, as for Vea, KC seems to have a bit of a love in with him and he can do no wrong, so a new deal wouldnt be a shock either, although I would prefer it if he werent retained. Of the others, SMD, Dawson and Charnock are hardly big earners, the biggest being Savelio, who no doubt will go on to be a world beater at Warrington, Leeds or Wigan who are better equipped to manage him.

I agree, Lee shouldn't be our lead off signing, and if he is it's a PR disaster, but let's not forget he isn't - neither club has confirmed this, and the paper said exactly the same thing about Brown last week - so either way it's not the first - I suspect/ hope the last few names are being much more guarded because they are higher quality players and the announcements a bigger deal.
Burns is gone, Walsh is gone, Turner is gone, SMD is gone (don't underestimate how much he was earning), and Savelio is gone (as a part of the Brown deal, and I don't blame the club all told). The rest I don't know.
