I think if we come out of the next 5 games with 8 points or more, then the moaning (including mine) will subside.
But KC needs to be careful. At the moment he has the smouldering embers of discontented fan base. Going public criticising fans is the equivalent of throwing petrol on that. He should choose his words carefully. He must also be aware that soundly beating Wakefield is not going to win many hearts and minds from a fanbase that considers anything else to be a dismal failure.
He should have saved those comments for after the Leeds game tomorrow. If we beat them convincingly, then he'd be on much steadier ground. As it is, he's missing the point a bit about what Saints fans want.
It's about a style of rugby. Even against a defence as terrible as Wakefield, nearly all our tries started with a PTB within 15 metres of their line. His tactics are the classic mid-noughties Bradfordian territorial grind, followed by a defence cracking in their own ten metres. It can be effective, but it's incredibly dull. Saints fans are conditioned from an early age to want much more adventure than that. We want fast wingers who can go the length, we want deep backs moves from within our own half, and we want that sense of butterflies and anticipation when those special players get the ball, because you just know that something extraordinary could happen.
What we have is the near-sure knowledge that nothing is going to happen at all, unless we manage to force them into a mistake within their own 10 metre line, so 90% of the game is essentially waiting to get there with 1 man-drives and kicks.
It might be effective, but God it's dull.
