Youffs of today probably just use the Facebook group, which is amazing fun after a game, whatever the result, say sack the coach and you get multiple threats, people really do get upset over a keyboard!
I'd be surprised if there were many people on here and other forums under 30. There is a lack of youth in the side so to speak. They tend to stick to social media. But when you are younger sport takes up alot more of your spare time. (I used to watch, snooker, cricket even football alot more than I do now) .
If I catch one cricket match a year it's a rarity for me.
I just think we get older and get less engaged, other stuff gets more important, it's less life and death than it seemed to be as teenagers and early 20's.
All the negativity talked on the forums is not necessarily reflective of the views of all fans. There has been lots of talk about people not renewing the 5 year deal on season tickets. But the number of fans are turning up.
Last night was a weird one as it was almost a like for like reflection of last years game.
Both games 44-4, attendance last year 10,001 attendance this year 10,008.
I think there has been an OTT reaction since the Salford game. Yes we were poor and yes of course I'd like us to play better. But all the talk about struggling to make the top 8 and sacking the coach was just crazy talk to me. Do we need to improve, of course. Are we likely to improve - I think we will.
I'd rather there had not been a contract extension given so early in the year. Personally I would have waited the full 2 years before deciding whether to stick or twist on the coach. That was the strangest decision for me as coaches are not like players, you don't need to sign them up early in case someone tries to poach them.
People are quick to blame the coach for picking Turner at halfback, but Burns did not really shower himself in glory last year and the coach is not the type to throw Fages straight in. If it was me I'd have Fages on the bench to drip feed him into the 6 position. However Cunningham is conservative so it's not surprising that he has picked a more slowly slowly route.
What a very good post! Living a long way away, this forum has been my main link to the Saints for many years. So it is a shame to see it starting to fade away, but I guess things come and go. Maybe Facebook is the way to go even with the nutters in there! Pretty sue though that this forum isn't really a reflection on the majority of speccies or their views on the club and players, even if the style of play isn't quite millward esque!
also with regards to the above, people often think Facebook is taking over, but it clearly isn't facebook Rugby groups are honestly some of the worst groups I have ever seen for chat, they are filled with vitriol, abuse, language and some of the worst spelling known to man.
That is why many people stick these forums, we are as popular as 5 years ago, and don't forget we are donating £1000s per year to Rugby League related good causes.
I think the whole club is on downer and then shows on here. If we'd won 4 out of 5 playing good rugby then everyone would be in high spirits but when watching the most boring side in super league it just causes a down feeling.
When you talk to people around town and in the ground there is definitely a general feeling of dissatisfaction in the way things are going with the team. Our exciting players are probably Swift, Percival, Fages, Roby and Walmsley................Percival and Swift are now injured, KC won't play Fages, Walmsley for some reason is a bit more conservative so far. So that just leaves Roby to create some spark as per usual. We need Lomax back, I seem to remember KC saying he will miss 4 to 6 super league games, next week is our 6th game, so whats the latest update on him.
We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

My intention was not to have a go at the forum, but more to explain why there tends to be more negativity on the boards. I do like forums and tend to stay off twitter and facebook in a personal capacity, but certainly there are more social media outlets than ever before and like minds do tend to attract.

Do you not think your going OTT on the advertisements?
The problem with this forum for me is some seem to revel in us losing games so they can come on with a nauseating 'I told you so' attitude.
Then a few others are cry @rseing about the style of play and being bored at the match. Well in my opinion we don't have the players anymore to play the style we've all seen in the past so we can only win games playing to the strengths of the players currently at our disposal, and we are winning right now. Style comes second to winning games for me anyway.
If you are so bored at the match go and take up gardening or something.
