I think that if we want to step up a level we need to get more out of our better paid players. I suspect that most of the players coming out of contract are on a fair whack and I don't think we're getting value.
Turner: I quite like JT, but I wouldn't offer him a new contract. He's a good centre with ball in hand, but his defence is poor. At stand off he does a decent job but is hardly a long term option. Best to let him go and get in a specialist in one position or the other.
Wilkin: again, I've got plenty of time for Wilkin, but I'm not sure he gives us enough for the doubtless substantial wage he's on.
LMS: a frustrating player. Just too many brainless penalties and moments where he switches off. I'd be surprised if we couldn't get better for the same money.
SMD: he does a good job as a backup, and would be worth keeping if it's at the right price.
It might be tricky to replace all of the first three at once, but if we could I'd go for it.
EDIT: forgot Walsh. Also probably not giving us our money's worth, but good scrum halves aren't easy to come by. I'd see how he gets on for another month or two before making a call.
