The forwards in our game are not made for it so it would not work as the other aspects of the game are far more important when conditioning forwards.

I find a contested scrum really tedious too. Massive waste of time and the union scrum is so technical and picky atm.

Any aspect of the game where the only two people who know why a penalty is awarded is the ref and the perpetrator is awful for the speccies.

There's loads of this goes on in union, a big pile of bodies and the ref awards a penalty. It just seems so random to the crowd watching. Ok, half the crowd cheer but really they haven't a clue as to what really went on.

It just becomes irritating. You sit there watching with a great bit WTF? in your head.

That's what would happen if contested scrums came back to league.

That's not strictly true as there were very few collapsed scrums in league. Most spectators with a good view of the scrum would know what any penalties were for.

It would be a farce. Spinning scrums, collapsing them. As mentioned modern players have no training in scrummage, so it would be dangerous and probably farcical to watch if it were reintroduced. It was banned for a very good reason, preventing young players having their necks broken.

I just don't see what the positives to the idea are.

Its dead simple just change the rule so that the scrum half feeds correctly into the front rows and let the scrummage develop from there.
Like I said before the game is dumbed down these days, we don,t have a correct play the ball either quite often the player rolling back the ball with the marker still in contact.

Scrums are a serious business.
Whilst they're not a lot of fun to watch (especially when you get a team who's out matched in other areas, turning the screw in the scrum to ruin the game), as a RU player I do appreciate the technicalities and influence this can have, its not for the spectator.
We pride our game in being fast and dynamic and being played by superior atheletes - competitive scrums will change the shape of your props for sure.

I also cannot see past, in the professional era, a pick and go from the back of the scrum being anything but easy, easy yards when you're playing without flankers.

Rather get rid and change the restart policy.
