It may well work in the NRL. Slowing the play the ball down has been a tactic used since i started watching RL 30 odd years ago and probably a long time before that. Defensively all teams do it, in attack all teams and their fans get frustrated by it.
True, I'm not against a slow tackle if it's a tactically sound slow tackle. ie players holding the player up in the tackle. But when it's players holding a player just for a 3rd or 4th player to come in with a cheap shot then that I cannot abide.
Also once the player has hit the deck again that is the point were the ref needs to take charge and get the players moving. It's got so slow now players lying on are looking around behind them to see when they need to start moving. If a player is looking behind them to see when to move, that for me is an indication of lying on and the ref should ping them, not shout move.

I fear that as a sport if we make it too quick we will reach a point where the players simply can't keep up. Especially those from, for want of a better term 'lesser teams' resulting in more walk overs and demolition jobs.
I can't see it being anymore of a demolition job than now. As it is the best teams are the ones less likely to get pinged for lying on. The best teams know how to milk a penalty.
