Compares very poorly to Union's deal, which was signed years ago at the height of the recession. But when you couldn't sort any sort of deal the previous year, it's not hard to say it's an improvement.

It's a deal that does little for the sport however. I'm pretty sure £750k will disappear on RFL overheads over 12 months.

When you give it away for nothing one year, it makes it nigh on impossible to charge for it again. The RFL's obsession with not going with drinks and betting firms as we're a "family" game is laughable if it wasn't tragic. SL is not Barcelona we cannot afford to give our sponsorship away for free

If they were going to give it away for free, Oxfam, Save the children etc would have provided far more coverage and prestige than Stobart.

Nothing wrong with Stobart, but as a deal it was not good.

When I first heard the deal I though it was going to be on all the trucks not just a few.

Something bugging me, have they sponsored both leagues, are they sponsoring the 3 spilt leagues?

I guess that depends on if they can get a second sponsor for the 2nd league.

I would not think there would be separate sponsors for the last 7 games of the season alone.

Don't feel that First Utility would be able to afford much more, 120,000 customers, which is 1% of the market, who increased their charges last year by 18%, and even in the last few weeks advised their customers to save money, by sharing showers, drinking less tea and coffee, play Monopoly instead of using electricity for the TV and go to bed earlier save having lights on?

How does Big Nige get them, it was billed as a real major utility sponsor, even late Sunday night it was rumoured to be United Utilities, and we once turned Paddy Power away???

why on earth would United Utilities be interested in sponsoring the league? They are a monopoly company in a regulated industry operating only in the north west. If you want water in the North West you have to get it from them. If you live in Yorkshire, even if you want UU to sell you water, you cant.

It would literally be money down the drain for them.

FWIW, First Utility are a pretty major company, the 7th biggest in a pretty tough market; with a turnover of approx £150m, growing by double year on year.

I did not say United Utilites would be the sponsor, I said it was rumoured!

No wonder First Utility are having such a large turnover, with an 18% increase in charges last year! so don't think that growing double is a sign of being a big success. The payment they are being reported as making is no more than Engage was paying, how many years ago? so it is clear Big Nigel and co are not increasing by double year on year, but he never seems to get questioned for not delivering.
