Part of that though was our apparent policy of never tackling around the legs. Had someone had the brains to tackle some legs, they wouldn't have made the metres they did.

He deserves a massive bollocking for the whole match IMO. Any good he might have done was completely obliterated by the penalties he gave away and errors he made, all of which were at vital times in the game and put inordinate pressure on the team.

I'd also liked to add that because I'm bored I compared Makinson's stats from the Dragons game to Lomax's stats from the Warrington game, and there is hardly any difference between them (see the 'Unacceptable' thread).

I also looked at Makinson's stats at fullback in the Wigan game, and aside from the three missed tackles, his stats were impressive, again when compared to Lomax in the Warrington game.

I'm comparing Dragons/Wigan to Warrington because they are sides of similar ability and challenge.

Lafranchi is experienced enough to understand how to play statistics to his own advantadge. However the normal speccie knows the difference between a Haggerty/Walmsley and a Lafranchi/Bottell. Whats the saying lies lies and dammed statistics or something like that. Lets hope he plays the game at HKR we need a big game from him

As BackrowSaint pointed out, he does the easy work. He was very keen to bring the ball away from kick offs against Catalans. By my reckoning he did it at 3 least times, which means 10-20m before the opposition can get to him. So probably somewhere between 40 and 60 of his metres were 'easy yards'. I reckon his stats and LMSs would be near identical if you take the kick off returns off him.

Laffranchi:
Breaks - 0
Busts - 0

Walmsley:
Breaks - 1
Busts - 6

I don't think I've ever seen Laffranchi run the ball in hard. I don't think I've ever seen him really put any effort into the collision. He doesn't even do what Clough does and drive for the floor to get a quick play the ball. He's just soft into the tackle.
