I agree there it is not impossible that Huddersfield can do enough to get to the end of the 27 rounds still on top of the table but that would take a lot out of them. I am sure if Huddersfield are league leaders then they will lose in the first round of the playoffs as they are likely to be playing one of Saints, Leeds or Wigan. Meaning that the winner of 2 Vs 3 will get club call and have the benefits of finishing top.

I agree it will be a real ACID test for them. I think that they have gone under the radar. I am sure when they play Saints, Leeds and Wigan again they will face far more determined sides.

In all fairness, he says we're not going to win a trophy and then we don't. So technically, he gets it right every year.

We've gone backwards every year for about the last 6 or 7 years now. Warrington, Leeds, Wigan, Huddersfield and probably Catalans are all better sides than we are. Come the play offs and Challenge Cup semis, we've not been winning those games.

We will not win a trophy this season. When I can say that with absolute stonewall confidence in March, it says a lot about the team.

We're not as good as 7 years ago, but could that not be attributed to the salary cap biting? No team in our league is as good as Saints 2006.
As for your "stonewall confidence" - you're just playing the odds and making a point of being a misery guts while you're at it.

Only one of those teams has more points on the ladder than us so far this year, we've beaten another one of them, and we haven't even played 2 of the 5 yet.

Let's see where we are in a couple of months before declaring a load of teams better than us and the season a write off (I appreciate that's not your style, you're more of a knee-jerk "Wakey have better backs than us" type, but I've bitten anyway!)

Only Warrington and Leeds have squads that are overall better than ours and we still more than compete with both in the forwards and may even be able to make a fist of it in the backs come the playoffs when the young 'uns have got a season's more gametime under them. Winning trophies comes down to timing and luck in one-off games and we've as much chance of both going in our favour as anyone else does right now. Stop talking your normal wet bull-hockey, even if it is for comic effect and getting a reaction to give yourself a nice little warm glow of achievement in your otherwise miserable existence

Come the playoffs, bar one year you could level the same thing at Wigan.
Huddersfield and Catalan do not have better records than us in playoff and CC semi's.

When you say we have not been winning those games, actually last year was the exception to the rule.

If you are using the last 6 to 7 years then we have been winning playoff games, just not the final. But how many people have won the final. Leeds! and in the exception of 2010 Wigan.

I know it's a pointless discussion as you do like a good grumble. But considering the depths some teams plummet to in their lean years, our lean years have been quite a breeze. Finals, never out the top flight.

The way you grumble you could forgive other fans for thinking us arrogant and living in our past.
Where have we fallen from the top 4?
Where has been our flirt with relegation?
Where has our balance on the edge of bankrupty been?
When have we been struggling to make the top 8?

Basically we bemoan not winning trophies from a position of comparative strength. Sure we would all like to win trophies, but that is sport, some years you win most other years you don't. We have a good team if not a great one. That is what you a 'Saints fans' view of a struggling team is and something worth carping every year.

If you were to put it into economic terms it's akin to Millionaires bemoaning the fact they no longer have x or y tax haven to use and thinking that equates some how to balancing on the edge of the financial abyss. Whilst others struggle to get by.

I was disappointed last year, not with the position we ended up in, more the style of play we had to employ to get there. I feel more entertained in the opening couple of games this year than pretty much the whole of the previous year.
