Reffing in RL is diabolical and Alibert is hardly an exception. Pretty much every close game these days is decided by at least 3 or 4 completely barmy and inexplicable decisions, and that's not even counting the constantly shifting rules that appear to be enforced on PTBs, forward passes etc. - you can almost believe the conspiracy theories that SL and the refs are deliberately manipulating decisions to influence results sometimes...

Indeed. But the referees in Super League are the most incompetent bunch of fools I've ever seen. Such low calibre individuals that if they weren't refereeing in Super League would be working in Roy's Rolls or McDonalds. What the game needs is a complete overhaul, from the top down.

Having said that, I thought Rush's comments were embarrassing for the club. Both him and our supposed Captain do nothing positive for us at all and they would both do well to shut up. The team was horrendous at the weekend and thoroughly deserved the defeat.

That's an insult to McDonald's workers.

The only ref worth his salt in Ganson followed a long way back by Thaler and perhaps Childs IMO.
The worst two are Halibut & Silverwood, followed by Roby.

The problem with Ganson is he thinks its all about him.

Would be interesting to know which, if any, of the current match officials ( and that includes linesmen and the other divvies that stand behind the sticks ) have ever actually played the game. I think posters would have to agree that most of them look like the kid at school who upon receiving the ball in a PE lesson would panic, throw the ball high up in the air, and run away as fast as they could.
Ganson, Silverwood, and possibly Thaler could have played a bit ??? - the others are all a weird bunch of athletes, with some very strange running gaits, who look as though playing was right at the bottom of their agenda - probably more interested in the lunchtime board games club.

Does anybody have an answer to this puzzling question ???????

I know Ganson played as a few years ago I was speaking to him and asked if he
played, he said he did however he constantly broke a bone which I think was in his hand. I can't remember exactly. So because he couldn't play anymore he took up refeereeing

Not sure about referees, but someone once told me of a man who wanted to become musician, however things did not work out for him, so, he became the chairman of a certain RL club and nearly achieved his ambition of playing the violin.

Re: thierry alibert : Fri Aug 17, 2012 7:55 am
Don,t club coaches send in there assessment to Cummings after each game, I should imagine all clubs would reflect the demise of the refereeing standard.
As far as I am aware there,s still no transparency between club and officials, hence more and more coaches on the "blame the ref bandwagon".
Looks as though Cummings has less quality to work with year on year, it's no good dropping a ref because he,s had a bad game because the replacement is of lower standard. Dropping a ref to touch judge duties will not inspire confidence after a few ga mes.
For me you need to throw money at it to make it an ambitious occupation, also the game needs to have a rules reduction , there are too many grey areas in the game which players and coaches have reason to complain about.
We are getting more and more games now, where the officials are having a direct influence on the games outcome.
Perhaps it's time to bring in the coach,s call, 4 calls per game for basic incidents such as knock on,s foul play, offsides. But then we would need the video ref each game and games lasting 90 mins for incident calls.
