No, it just shows how **** the available level of talent in SL is right now... If you can think of better outside backs on the market free for us to be able to sign than Gardner and Meli right now then please enlighten us as to who they may be? Given that Scott Grix is about the level of potential back recuitee that seems to be on the market then I'll stick with Meli thank you very much.

It is a sad state of affairs when an ageing Meli is the best outside back that's available to sign, but that is sadly the case. I'd be more than happy to see him in the vee again next season as we look mighty thin in the 3/4s without him...

Hope he signs the extension. He has been one of our better players this year. Another year should see whether our young ones are up to the mark before he leaves.

A one year deal is fine although with Manu getting 2 you can see why he would hold out for more. The question is do we have anyone to replace him next year? The year after?

Personally I'd go for 1 year as I think he plays his best a year before his contract is up. Any more and he could be tempted to slack off.

I don't understand this statement.

You want to see whether the young ones are 'up to the mark' before he leaves but how can the young ones show us anything if their path is being blocked by a 33 year old barger who only does any work of any note when his contract is up for renewal?

You mean to say Meli has been the best winger Saints could get hold of in six years?

Rubbish! There are a lot better wingers in other teams who have joined those teams in the interim, and that's not to consider what may be lurking in our much neglected youth system.

Personally I think McManus has some man love for him. I can't think of any other reason why he would be kept on, especially as he invariably destroys our chances in the big games.
