He is in complete denial IMO. The Wigan losses are not simply losses to one team: they are hammerings by the team we should be aiming to beat if we have any aspirations at all for this season. He's clearly deluded if he is comparing this year's performances against Wigan with last year's. With the exception of the match at Widnes - when I think we still lost by fewer points than any of the matches this season - we were within one converted try of a win each time, and we had already drawn one match against them.
He also does not appear to appreciate that outside of silverware winning matches, the matches against Wigan are the most important for fans. So he really should stop trying to patronise us by talking about perspective. Our performance on Sunday was atrocious, regardless of how well Wigan were playing.
