It isn't fair on Wigan or Saints. However since we lost to Widnes ( ) we can't make as much noise about it as you, but please keep complaining!

Can't help thinking that if the table, and form were reversed and the Saints were on top with two derby wins in the bag no one from St.Helens would be wishing for less derby games in a season, no I think they would be slagging
the Pies, and looking forward to another win on sunday. Things being as they are, most Saints fans are not looking to sunday with a good feeling of a win for them. I don't know why? as far as I'm concerned if the Pies don't turn up with their minds fully on the job in hand, Saints will turn us over. On the subject of if there are too many W & Sts. darbies, I agree, there are, great when you win but when sides like the Wire get a bye for there game, it does seem a bit of a bad joke for the hard points Saints and Wigan have to fight for. I know Widnes have put one over us this season, just goes to show "Pigs can fly" so don't give up on sunday. I for one am not counting any chickens..

Re: Too Many Derbies??? : Fri May 25, 2012 3:12 pm
I was of the same opinion last year too and the year before etc. But then I am a bit of a ludite, who thinks that season long performance is a better test of a team than a knockout competition for the last 4 games of the year. But before I derail my own thread. I do like the concept of the teams not knowing who they will play and the suggestion of league placings is certainly one way to go. In the end the coaches are not going to pick too different a team if they know from day 1 or 7 days before the match.

But as the whole MM is a gimick, how about this. The teams have no idea who they will play. Eh!! The day prior to MM the first set of teams are drawn out. (I would prefer on the day, but i suppose you can't expect every team to trudge up both days)

However on the last day, the teams and order could be drawn on the day.

That way no one knows the running order and fans will either have to buy into the RL carnival aspect or throw their dummies in as they can't pick the day that their team will play.

It may seam madness, but is it anymore madness to have a whole season and then shelve those result in favour of a knock out competition to decide the winners. Damn derailed myself again at the last breath...

O well

Yep, too many for me. Should only play each other once at home and once away.

Too many for me, too. Last season was ridiculous. I was bored rigid with the derbies by about our fourth meeting. This year I'm already bored with them and can't wait to get Sunday out of the way. I don't even care what the result is, I just want to see us playing someone else. At least after Sunday we have to wait until the last game of the season to play them again. Thank fook for that.

In some ways yes, it does lose its importance if there's 5/6 a year, but if we have to play 1 team that much, i'd like it to always to be wigan.
Remember the debacle at widnes last year and how by the play offs we had their number, it will happen again sooner (Sunday) or later (when it actually matters)

O Loughlin wouldn't have said it if he was in our position.

There are too many derbies and like Carlos says, playing them twice with the chance in the cup is plenty for me.

As much as I enjoy the Derby there are too many. A few years ago, it was always unfair to be playing a game that Wigan would most likely lose, now it's the other way around but the imbalance in the league is stupid.

I would much rather see the weekend as a 7s or 9s tournament, but one where a decent chunk of the squads must come from outside of the first team. Make it a cup weekend, randomly drawn and maybe get some of the upper teams form the Championship involved.

At least it would be different and would stop the "play everyone twice, except the derby which is three times, oh, the non-derby games like Catalan and whoever".
