I was of the same opinion last year too and the year before etc. But then I am a bit of a ludite, who thinks that season long performance is a better test of a team than a knockout competition for the last 4 games of the year. But before I derail my own thread. I do like the concept of the teams not knowing who they will play and the suggestion of league placings is certainly one way to go. In the end the coaches are not going to pick too different a team if they know from day 1 or 7 days before the match.
But as the whole MM is a gimick, how about this. The teams have no idea who they will play. Eh!! The day prior to MM the first set of teams are drawn out. (I would prefer on the day, but i suppose you can't expect every team to trudge up both days)
However on the last day, the teams and order could be drawn on the day.
That way no one knows the running order and fans will either have to buy into the RL carnival aspect or throw their dummies in as they can't pick the day that their team will play.
It may seam madness, but is it anymore madness to have a whole season and then shelve those result in favour of a knock out competition to decide the winners. Damn derailed myself again at the last breath...
O well
