Here goes then. I hink he has a very good long kicking game he has shown a good level of proficiency with his short game including some very good little grubbers for tries.

He hasn't lacked the willingness to perform his defencive duties. He can bullet a pass and even though he throws the?odd interception will improve. He has shown an ability to lead the team round and shown some organising qualities. He also is willing to take on the defence and go through a gap.

Will that do.

IMO his kicking game is OK but nothing spectacular.
For a half back his passing is too erratic. Some lovely passes quickly followed by some which make you shake your head.
Defensively OK for a player of his age, No complaints there.
Organisationally he takes the wrong option too often and attacks break down because he will go for glory when a simple pass is all that is required.
In broken play with ball in hand he doesn't seem to be aware of his support runners until it is too late.

All this could be put down to his age but Great stand-off's don't have these fundamental flaws in their games even at a young age.

I personally think he may be able to be converted to centre or second row (provided he bulks up a lot ). Without the organisational side of the gameplan to worry about he may start to gain consistancy and confidence and prove me wrong.

Who knows.

Nicely hidden. That's how we saw Warrington for the past 100 years.

Re: Squad standards : Sun May 20, 2012 10:16 pm
1. Paul Wellens - Yes but should be doing less not more nowa days
2. Ade Gardner - No, has always been on the cusp but never broke through for me
3. Michael Shenton - No, has gone backwards for me at Saints
4. Sia Soliola - Yes - could become a massive prop for us in future
5. Francis Meli - No, is blistering in attack and a nightmare in defence
6. Lance Hohaia - Maybe but not at halfback
7. Jonny Lomax - Yes, but probably not as our general in the middle just yet, needs a freer reign
8. Josh Perry - No, whether injury or attitude it's a no
9. James Roby - Yes ( but needs to be used less)
10. LMS - Maybe but seams to turn it on and off
11. Tony Puletua - Yes
12. Jon Wilkin - Not sure anymore
13. Chris Flannery - Would have been if he just played 2nd row and not centre or LF
14. Anthony Laffranchi - Yes, but we have alot similar
15. Mark Flanagan - Not sure another very similar style player we have too many of
16. Paul Clough - No, we have too many hardworkers, not enough skill
17. Gary Wheeler - Yes, but needs that run of fitness
18. Shaun Magennis - No, too similar to the rest of the hardworkers
19. Andrew Dixon - Undecided, has been kept out since his good run
20. Lee Gaskell - Yes, can already bust tackles, make breaks, has one of the best long kicking games in the league, a decent short kicking game that makes tries, links well with other half's, will get bigger and bust more and more tackles, has improved his defence and has been our last line a few times, can spot where other teams are short and get across feild to make the extra man, needs to work a bit more on holding the line and taking the right option and looking for support runners.
21. Tom Makinson - Yes, but I don't see him as the FB others do, Winger for me
22. Jamie Foster - Maybe, but would need to see him along side a different centre to see if his tries were all meli or whether he can strike with a less dominant centre, and needs his confidence for kicks and defense
23. Scott Hale - Not seen enough to judge
24. Nathan Ashe - I like what I've seen, seams to have a bit of pace
25. Carl Forster - Liked what I've seen, but needs not to stall like some of our other potentials seam to have done.
26. Josh Jones - Not seen enough to judge
27. Danny Jones - Not seen enough to judge
28. Joe Greenwood - Not seen enough to judge
29. Anthony Walker - Not seen enough to judge
30. Jordan Hand - Not seen enough to judge
34. Adam Swift - Not seen enough to judge

In the end Top Saint, I'm not sure whether you see something different to the rest of us in Gaskell or whether its something personal. I know when he first made the team there were a few guys straight on here to bag him before hand touched ball. I don't know the guy, but it does seam he has rubbed some people up the wrong way and some are using forums to bag the guy.

Gaskell maybe a total tool, and really unlikable as a bloke, but as a RL player with one season under his belt, he has more talent than most in their first hit out and it seams to be just personal reasons that are now keeping him from playing.
