IMO if we are to sign anyone then it should be halfback, prop and centre in that order.
Next year we probably don't need a winger. But then the year after we will know whether any of our internal guys have made the grade. Foster, Makinson etc, so we may need a winger the following year.
As for halfbacks, again I can't see that it's a player we can afford to get. Lance and Lomax are signed to 2015, so unless we are able to find a home for them at another club, then I can't see us paying their wages whilst letting them sit 4 years out on the sidelines. Then we also have Gaskell and Wheeler till 2014. You may not like the halves but we are going to have to use what we have. Unless someone is leaving us before end of contract.
Props well we have space there. Centre well we could have space there too. But signing a Centre this year, will mean no space for Josh Jones or Gary Wheeler next year. I can see us getting a prop but anything else just looks to key a signing to make before the new coach has arrived and had time to put his own input on the team and decide what he wants.
A good coach can do to Saints, what a good coach has done to Wigan and Huddersfield and Warrington.
At warrington there have been purchases, but the initial impact of tony smith turned a team of less than average under other coaches over a few weeks into CC contenders.
Huddersfield brown added 1 or 2 exteranal players but the rest was what he had and developed them.
Same with Maguire 1 or 2 additions but mostly the same team as Noble.
