The play offs last year against Wigan and the final against Leeds he was very good and looked like the centre I thought we'd signed.

Must admit im pretty concerned about the way he's carrying that arm. If its just a matter of games until he gets used to playing again then I'm all for giving time and new deal but if this is permanent then I'd not give him new deal.

So far he has been soso for me. However i never expected a world beater when we signed him. Though i did expect more from him offensively speaking.

Put it this way. Wire got the better deal signing Ryan Atkins by a long shot.

Shenton had bugger all service of any kind for the whole of last year while being more than decent defensively (the only area of his game he got any opportunity to shine in), and is still obviously recovering from an extremely serious and potentially career-ending injury so far this. It is completely unfair and utterly ludicrous to write him off as an attacking force when he has never had the chance to be able to show that side of his game in a Saints shirt, and even more so to bag his defensive performances so far this season when he is still clearly suffering.

The guy will never be a Newlove, but given the current appalling British 3/4 talent vacuum he's by far and the away the best option we will have available at #3 for the next few years. It may be that he never fully recovers from the injury and will need to be released once his contract is up, but in the meantime at least give the poor guy a chance for bleep's sake...

I wonder what goes through the heads of a lot of Saints fans sometimes, I really do....

You have to ask who are people going to replace a Shenton with???????

There is jack all, even if we binned Sia, we would not get a decent Oz centre. 2nd rate Oz centres are on so much cash that we can only afford those due for NRL retirement or dog handlers.

In the UK there is Atkins, Yeaman, Shenton and that's about it for quality centres. There is Wheeler but he can't cover both Saints centres and before anyone starts, I would not play makinson there as Shenton is going to be due a new winger soon, who will probably end up being makinson.

Shenton is what he's always been, solid but never going be Jamie Lyon, Newlove or Senior. From what I've seen he doesn't get much ball as Saints seem to play predominantly down the left to be fair to him.

Regardless of his ability, Shenton is the most ungainly centre I've seen in a Saints shirt since Tony Kay. The guy is all arms and legs akimbo. It's almost as if someone transformed Bambi into human shape.
