Plus, Wheeler's got a very good claim to a centre shirt, where he'll have a more settled time to develop.

Meli did an excellent job last year for most of the season, but he obviously prefers to run out wide. So that being the case, Centre spot is wide open for Wheeler to claim long term. No real competition there.

Gaskell will get a few more runs this year. Lomax and Lance will not go uninjured for the whole year. That is how it should have been last year. 2 young lads being drip fed in along side a stead hand, the same way Long was introduced at Saints, and Kerion. Same as numerous Saints players. That experienced head can take control and takes the pressure whilst the youth can do what they do best and express themselves and slowly pick up the running of the team.

He's been on the Leeds forum telling them that Wheeler is the most overrated young Super League player ever.

Wheeler and Meli are great to have together. Both are players that teams, in defence, want to get at least two men in on the tackle due to Wheelers step and Meli’s power. Having them together forces one on one tackles and results in line breaks.

Garys game is not really structured enough to play in the halves. Playing at centre means he does not have to worry about distribution or kicking he can just think about his game and have a run about.

Nope. I've never bagged his ability, I've never really seen him play, bar the odd game here and there. It's his fortitude and will to play that I've always questioned.

I admit that our squad is overstacked with #6s at the moment and rather less so with #4s so that is where he is likely to play most of his rugby for the forseeable future. I still say it though - put him in a #6 shirt alongside a good organising/kicking #7 (my kingdom for one of those in a Saints' shirt right now...) and let him do his thing with the ball in hand as often as possible and you'd rapidly see a superstar develop.
