Mugwump mocking mental illness for a second time -

"You are mentally ill and I can't indulge your madness any more"

Utter disgusting abusive remark from a keyboard warrior

I posted this on the Leeds team thread, but I think it deserves more discussion.

'TMak' certainly has a lot of credit with the fans, seems to be a 'superstar'. But I must say bar the odd moment he's been completely anonymous since he broke into the first team squad. IMO he doesn't contribute nearly enough to be in the first team on the wing.

Does he have this reputation purely because he doesn't make the same glaring errors our other (Pathetic) wingers and centre make? The stats certainly back that up...

Foster:

Career Super League games 41
Career Super League tries 29
Career Super League tries per game 0.71
Career Super League clean breaks per game 0.73
Career Super League metres per appearance 64.98
Career Super League metres per carry 7.79
Career Super League errors per appearance 0.92

Makinson:

Career Super League games 22
Career Super League tries 7
Career Super League tries per game 0.32
Career Super League clean breaks per game 0.18
Career Super League metres per appearance 55.09
Career Super League metres per carry 6.69
Career Super League errors per appearance 0.77

The only stat where Makinson is in Foster's league is errors.

I think the difference is that foster started pretty well (excluding Salford) and was very good in his first season and half the following season. Tommy has been a slow burner and has gradually improved in to a very good player.

On the meters per carry, foster will make more as he touches the ball more, nearly every team kicks to foster due to his inability to catch.

For me, tommy is by far the better player.

Threads like this show why a lot of our kids are under performing at the moment.

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.

For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.

Wigan had eight in a row

I agree
Comparing him to someone his own age would be more appropriate.

Statistical comparisons are meaningless without context.

I mean, the stats say Ade Gardner once led the league in try-scoring.

I'm surprised how the stats stack up. Personally, I'd have Makinson over either Gardner or Foster. He came of age in the grand final and was arguably our best player in that match. He's done nothing wrong this season

he certainly had a good GF, and his chip through for the try was top notch. You are correct that he's done nothing wrong this season, but he's also done very little, if anything of note. One game doesn't make a superstar, and he now needs to recapture the flash of brilliance he howes in that game on a regular basis. I think he is suffering, as are the rest of the young players, from playing in a poor team this year. For a long home we have integrated our kids well into a good side, hopefully we won't end ip killing our kids like Wigan did by feeding them into a crap, losing team.

I think he has the ability to be a top class player. the thing is he's suffering ( As is Shenton) from lack of ball with space to work. It's no good having the ability if he is not provided with opportunities.

He's 21 in 6 months. It's not like he's 16 or a prop forward.

Statistics aren't the be all and end all, as you point out they do need some context. But they are indicative and can be used to support points, which is what I did. I said Makinson gets his reputation for being 'better' than Foster and Gardner from making fewer errors. The stats shows this to be correct, he makes fewer errors and misses fewer tackles. I also said he doesn't do enough with the ball, and has been anonymous in most games he has played for us. His stats show that to be the case as well and they don't seem to be improving on last years either. You just don't notice Makinson in most games, he doesn't make mistakes, is solid, but is never a threat to the opposition.

Perhaps playing him at fullback so he can see the ball a bit more might be an idea?

We dont get good ball out to the right,so he is very very limited as to what he can actually do when he gets it.Other teams know he is ok under a highball and kick the otherway so he gets to see even less ball. You dont notice him as much as our attack down the right has been poor and the ball slow getting there.

I would like to see him at fullback, his pace would cause problems.

For me this would be his best position.
