After reviewing the footage of Hudds trys it is my opinion that fundamentally Soliola was the cause of our weakness down the right.
For the first try he was massively out of position which forced Lomax to go for the rush defence play, for the second try Shenton got sucked across to assist Soliola because he was conscious that Sol is fundamentally weak at dealing with players coming on the angle with a step.
I would therefore go with Flannery on the right. He is a good allround player who quietly and efficiently manages the defensive structure well.
What of Soliola. Well he has been excellent going forward so i would play him in the middle of the field as Loose Forward.
Wilkin would go on the right
Hence full team as follows
FB:Wellens
Wings:Gardner and Foster
Centres: Shenton and Wheeler
SO Gaskell
SH Lomax
Props: Perry and Laffranchi
Hooker: Lance
second rows: Flannery, Wilkin
Loose Soliola
subs: Clough, Puletua, Dixon, Meli
I would drop LMS as he didnt do much at Hudds and was for me the least effective of the big guys going forward.
Why would i start Perry, well for me he is the type of Prop that should start. He is a big rough tough prop that is ideal in the opening 20 mins. I think he has been wasted when brought off the bench as he is not an impact style prop.
