I don't get it????

This is a sponsorship of RL on Sky. That is not the same thing as a sponsorship of RL. Normally Sky would have to pay a fortune for this but they're getting it for free.

I reckon the amateurs at RL have been turned over by the pros at Sky here.

By that logic if Sky paid to put massive SL posters up all around the country, that would not benefit SL - just Sky?

Sky are not in SL for the sake and health of SL, they are in it for Sky. They have a pro team and a budget to promote that. The RFL should be there to promote SL. It is not the same thing.

So you don't think massive trucks driving round plastered in SL players advertises SL?

No it isn't. Sky and Heinz are both advertising on the Stobart trucks. Stobart have been clever in getting their livery costs covered by Sky and Heinz. But the message on the trucks, especially on the back (which everybody following will see) is very, very clearly about rugby league. Oh, and I think the great big bloke scoring a try down the side of the truck may also give the game away a little.

I rather like the reference to Friday nights. It suggests something for people to investigate. And the fact that three big names - Stobart, Heinz and Sky - are all associating themselves with this thing which takes place on a Friday night might make that thing worth a look.

All in all I think the whole deal is a good one, suits everybody's needs, and if Stobart decide to convert more trucks in the future - which the media people seem to think will be the case - then it will have an even bigger impact. Meanwhile, the RFL is free to explore other revenue streams without worrying their title sponsor.

I would imagine Sky and Heinz paid for their advertising on the truck sides and so I should imagine that money will have gone towards the cost of the rugby livery. Stobart didn't get to where they are today by being mugs!

No cash to SL/RFL = good deal for Stobart not the RFL.

Any sponsor would have to advertise (if not, there is no point in sponsoring); the difference is that any other sponsor/sport, the sponsor would have to cough up some readies as well.

I think the package Stobart have brought to the table is more an associate sponsor, but it is signed and sealed now, perhaps mistakenly for 3 years!

We have got to improve on media coverage other than Sky is sponsors are ever going to take us serious.
