The wide range of teams these lads have come from is a testamony to good scouts at Saints. Unlike a certain other team who shall not be mentioned who recruit 90% of teir youngsters from one local club. Not only is that just lazy it's also short sighted on their behalf.
Hang on Saints dont sign players according to some on these boards, instead all we do is release or sell players
You missed one key word out. SENIOR. We sign da kids frm da youf, but we don't sign enough experienced Super League players. For example losing Leon Pryce and using his salary to pay for 10 children which it looks like we've done here is wonderful for the medium term. I'm sure one or two of those boys will turn out to be decent first team players, but none of them will play next season (Feel free to correct me on that, I'm assuming they are 16) which makes us weaker. We've been doing that for years and the players coming through aren't good enough to replace those leaving.

In your opinion they arent good enough , seriously at 16? how many current superstars were ripping up superleague at 16? very rare you get such people, I dont know if they will make it at Saints , no one does , all we know is that they are obviously highly rated by the staff at the club to be given contracts , Staff who do this sort of thing for a living , I would cut thekm some slack before declaring them fit for the bin , and no I dont expect to see any 16 year olds playing for the first team let them develop and be brought through in the proper way , you never know we might have one or two superstars among them , stranger things have happened , Saddened beng happy for example !!

I'm not on about the 10 we've just signed. I mean the likes of Clough, Wheeler, Armstrong, Dixon, Ashurst who are in the first team are not going to replace the likes of Sculthorpe, Gilmour, Long, Cunningham, Anderson, Albert etc.
We have had a net loss of established players for about 5 years now. Whilst this helps bring through academy players, it also results in the strength of the first team being weakened in the short term. I am saying we're getting the balance slightly wrong. We're focusing too much on youth and are short on numbers of established senior players. Which means the junior players are having too much pressure put on them and we're sliding out of contention slowly.
I would agree with that, AT THIS POINT in their developement but who can deny the improvement in Cloughs game , Wheeler and Armstrong were covering for injuries last year and were in and out of the first team so who is to say how they will develop , I think you expect us to sign world beaters like in the beginning of super league ,, which incidentaly nearly bankrupted the club, has everyone forgotten that , I have been told until Mr Mac took over the reigns the club was within an ace of dissapearing so spending like that isnt fasable if we want a sustanable club, we HAVE to bring youngsters through and persevere with them , there is no quick fix .But also i would wonder who you would sign to improve the squad , quality world class players come on the market very rarely and as I say we dont have the cash to splash out on huge transfer fees like Newloves if we want to keep the club in existance.
