As I've said, I'd like to see something done with the kicking the ball dead situation but I'm not sure a tap from where it's kicked is the way forward.

I think it takes away the art of the long kicking game as teams would fear kicking it dead and maybe then start defending on the halfway line. I also think it would then encourage teams to kick for touch more often which results in a scrum which results in the ball being out of play and that's slowing the game down.

The long kicking game is a art and a vital part of the game, i think brains idea would end the kicking game and IMO the game would be worse off.

Surely it's the fullbacks job to field the ball before it goes dead. Making a rule for this is just covering poor fullback play.

The kickers job is to find the space the fullback and wingers job is to return the ball the best way possible.

This is not a problem created by kickers, it's a problem created by poor quality fullback play. It's a good tactic for releaving pressure on a side under the Kosh, but it carries hazards, as if the fullback catches the ball they can return the ball quite a distance up feild due to the kicking side, kicking from very deep.

It can't be the fullbacks fault all the time.

How deep do you want them to stand?

There's very little a full back can do when a player on halfway wellies it as far as he can wanting it to go over the dead ball line.

Agreed.
IMO it's negative play that shouldn't be rewarded. Arguing against St. Petes point, maybe it would encourage more accurate kicking, which is what we should be doing.

It should encourage better kicking but I think it will just kill the long kicking game in fear of losing 50 meters field postion by kicking the ball slightly hard by mistake.

I do think it will encourage more kicks to touch which means more scrum resulting in the ball being out of play and the game being slower.

I must point out, I'm totally against the kicking the ball dead but it's tricky knowing how to cut it out the game.

I don't think a tap from where it's kicked is the best way to be honest.

I'd suggest a tap on the 20 is a fair result, but maybe the ref should not need to wait to let the players with the ball get back onside. And neither should the tap need to be taken from the centre of the field.

ie long kick. The FB can't recover the ball, passes it to the winger stood on the 20, taps and runs it back from anywhere on the 20. So any defending team would have to get up in a line pretty sharpish.

It's all imaterial though, because until the Ozzies change any rules we will just wait to follow them.

Meanwhile back on topic, the hitting the players arm and trying to knock the ball out of the dumy half`s hands is really annoying and particularly Bradford seem quite keen on it, they tried it endlessly when we played them in the rain and Childs gave a knock on against the team playing the ball more often than not

is really any different than trying to dislodge it in the tackle?

The aim surely is the same no matter the mechanics
