Has the potential to become that rare thing, a world class British centre

He also kicks goals very well, which people saw for the first time last night.

If you don't bother to go to the game when you live in the locality then you are not really a fan and therefore your views are invalid. It's simple.

sorry. I meant realistically.

Being serious, he is the best youngster in super league in my opinion. He has tons of potential and has a Sam Tomkinsesque ability to dismantle teams. Except unlike Tomkins he isn't paper thin, doesn't fall over every time he gets the ball and isn't a niggly, self-opinionated, pompous player.

Also, Foster is a really really good kicker and an above average winger  the showing from Makinson tonight shows there is still star quality in Sts.

LOL... Sam is anything but "Paper thin" He takes every high shot and snide tackle and gets up... Except for when he gets knocked out, but still scores a try when he does get knocked out.... If he does go to ground its to avoid some average joe player taking retribution for him having talent...

I don't think Saints played that badly last night. You have some great youngsters. We just played to our potential and did a job on Roby who is always a threat. Wire Have the problem you have to come, older established players getting to the end of their careers. But Southern Cross must be looking forward to them all retiring.

I'm assured he can snort a line of coke the size of a Mecca dauber though.

Sam is paper thin. Both physically and mentally. He can easily be bullied in a game, or didn't you watch the four nations last year. I can't see someone as mentally and physically strong as Lomax getting bullied like Tomkins has been in the past.

Sam has so much talent and, as I said can, can dismantle a team with ease but he has been found out to a certain extent. He has a lovely side step but players have sussed him and he has gone missing a lot this year. Most obviously at the DW against Wire. Wire just got the big guys to sit on him. He doesn't have the mass to compete with anyone who has sussed him here and has shown to be beyond poor against the Aussies. We can disagree; we both have opinions.

But, Sam doesn't always have to be heralded as the best player all the time. I can see his talents and I can also, objectively, see his weaknesses. I hope he performs better this year in the 4 nations than he did last year. I do believe that will begin with him growing up about (more mentally than physically; but both would be ideal)

I honestly didn't understand what you said about Wire. I am assuming it is they are too old. I have been hearing that for 3-4 years now. We'll just see how Wire get on. Remember that Wigan in the past decade have been very close to relegation and Sts and Leeds are arguably going through transitions now. That is the nature of rugby league. I am happy with where Wire are atm and you shouldn't worry your little head about it. You focus on the Worriors and I will focus on Wire.

Btw congrats on getting top spot. nothing is won in June.

Thought Wilkin was your best player last night apart from that awful kick that landed in row f, ran hard all night and tackled well.

Now that I agree with. But Wilkin has been excellent for us all season, doing whatever is needed in any given situation. His kicks, generally, have been great this year.

I've never really rated Wilkin myself, but he seems to have stepped up a notch this year, hope he can keep it up for Englands sake.

We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Re: Tom Makinson : Sat Jun 18, 2011 12:41 pm
For mine, I thought Wilkin came out with some good from that game.
Lomax and Gaskell too. But without the forwards, you're kickers and playmakers can only do so much.

The kicks where generally deep, but the chasers well, I think Wigan hit the 30m mark at a minimum yesterday.

So any deep kicks where ineffective because of the chase. Except the ones from Wilkin that he put into touch.

Not only that (chase? what chase?) but also because our forwards couldn't be bothered working for a living, poor old Gaskell was kicking from inside his own 20 half the time, meaning his kicks could be read like an open book. I felt sorry for the lad last night. He tried his best to overcome the woeful forward effort.

Is Makinson a good goal kicker?
