We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Re: 10 Rounds in... : Sat Apr 16, 2011 10:59 pm
The 2 are not mutually exclusive. If you score more than the opposition you will win games.

I've never bought into the theory that defence wins games, as it's quite clearly bunkham and illogical. If you wanna test the theory. When you get the ball kick it back to the opposition every time and see who scores more. The side who defends more or the side who attacks more.

Defence stops you losing but it does not win you matches. Just as risk free play reduces the risk of losing but an element of risk makes you unpredictable and harder to stop. In the end if we play entertaining rugby and are fairly decent in defence we will win matches and so be in the mix to win stuff.

5 drives and a kick will only get you so far, as the last 4 grand finals have proven.

I'd rather watch entertaining rugby and think we could win something than watch 5 drives and a kick to just get to finals to lose to sides willing to give the ball some air.

The game is/has been changing.

Rolling everything through the PTB is not the way.

Back play , width and hence pace will be the hallmark of silverware teams.

All things come in circles.

Royce Simmons is building. The signs are good.

I agree.

By necessity, he has had to keep things relatively simple and work through James Roby with Wello in support because of the inexperience of our halfbacks, but should Leon Pryce ever grace a Saints shirt again, we could start seeing more expansive play than we are doing at present. Even with a less complex game plan we are seeing much more ball go outwide this season, which is great.

I would just like to make a slight correction to what St Pete said about our debate last season. I said that like everyone else I want silverware. But I also want to enjoy my weekly rugby league. So if forced to make a choice between the two I want enjoyable weekly rugby league rather than to be bored for however many months and get a trophy. Obviously, though, in an ideal world I want to be entertained for however many months by enjoyable rugby league AND win a trophy or two!

I am enjoying my weekly rugby league at present. It's great compared to the last two seasons.

It would be interesting if anyone has the time to compare the stats on the opening post against another selected season, specially when the last post says "its great compared to the last two seasons".

Indeed it is. Our style is wonderful compared to the last two seasons, and that is why I am enjoying my weekly rugby league at present when compared to the last two seasons. It's called personal preference. I prefer the way Royce Simmons is taking Saints in our style of play. We can even score long range tries again! Well in Royce! :thumb:
