How much will this season cost us? : Sun Apr 14, 2013 2:22 pm
I've just been looking at how we've been doing in comparison with the same fixtures last season. The stats speak for themselves in terms of our results. 4 outcomes worse than last season, 6 the same and only 2 better. In terms of points scored we are down 9 per game and are averaging just 22 per game, which is worrying when you consider that we've played most of the poor sides at home already. That stat makes sense though given the lack of half backs. Defensively we are more or less the same, conceding 1 point per game more than last season and averaging 19 points per game. Average result for these fixtures last season was a 13 point win, this season it's a 3 point win.

Perhaps of more concern to the club (As they don't appear to care about the team winning) is the attendances. Every game has seen a drop, which is perhaps understandable given last season was the first year at the new ground. But the drop is quite severe, the honeymoon of the new stadium and it's affect on our crowds and therefore finances is clearly over. Last season for the fixtures we've had so far, we averaged 13,780 and this season it's 10,586. I did consider the snow game, but there were a run of horrendously rainy games last season that would have affected the crowds as well. That is an average drop of 3,194 per game. That figure translated over the season equates to £870,000 at £21 per ticket. That children, is the price of failure and the result of neglecting the squad.

Stats don't lie. I think the minute McManus gets hit in the pocket, he will realise the team performances and player recruitment (more importantly) are directly linked to the attendance.

The attendance drop would have been steep regardless of the squad.

In all honesty I think this thread reflects an awful lot of negative vibes around the club. Red Vee is awful for this with a certain number of individuals. If we compare and contrast with Knowsley Road it is still positive in an ecconomy which is now catching up with a lot of families. You are not wrong in your facts I just dont think they help anyone.

The 5 year season tickets take the edge off that to a degree.

guaranteed income and a certainty over income for 3 more years.

If corporates are doing well then that also will blunt the need to respond to the
current discontent amongst the fan base.

My Daughter was a mascot at the Leeds game. It was 200 pounds which I am fortunate to be able to afford but it was fantastic for the whole family and it wouldnt have even occured to me to spend that at Knowsley Road. The corporate bit seemed to be quite healthy on that night, we spent about 40 pounds as well as the initial outlay so that is more outside of the ticket price in one match than I would have spent in a full season at the old stadium. This may not reflect everyone I understand

I hate to say it, but I'm going to games expecting to lose these days, something I never thought would happen with Saints. It's not good enough, and won't be unless McManus puts his hand in his pocket and signs some players starting with halfbacks and forwards with some grunt, and we release overseas players who are stealing a living at Saints. Considering the performances, the attendances haven't been to bad I don't think.

I doubt it would have been to the tune of 3000 for every match though. If our average so far is a bit over 10,000 then I think that is lower than our average during the last season at Knowsley Road isn't it? Hadn't we gotten up to an average of 11,000 by that time? Our average may increase as the season progresses (although we are now halfway through) but even so it is concerning.

We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Re: How much will this season cost us? : Sun Apr 14, 2013 4:57 pm
The snow game was a horrendously low attendance. Also last year there was the Wigan game on good Friday at LP.

I was expecting a drop this year. The key with every other thread is halfbacks.

Get 2 halfbacks for next year then I doubt there will be another drop. Keep as we are then people will lose faith.

But I'm also expecting an upturn in results.
Even discounting Perry for the rest of the season. We had 6 what I would call starting 13 missing. That's half the starting players. I still see us as top 4, but top 2 requires 2 decent (not world beating half's).

Note that the stats I put are based on like for like fixtures, so the Wigan game isn't in the average for last season that I put. The snow game is a factor, but there were a lot of severe weather nights last year where we found out about the need for the cladding.
