Mike McIlorum will definitely be in there but I think it's time to consider him our best hooker. Better all round player than Roby.

Roby was electric out of acting half for many years in dominant Saints team. But average distribution skills are a problem at top level.

Not convinced that McIlorum is all that but the short comings in Roby's game (although designed to provoke a
response) are pretty much spot on.

I think he does have a point. Roby does have a limited game. However for England I think Roby's energy and workrate would be required still. As for choosing McIllorum as the man to nominate, that's just retarded. He's a very poor player who would be ruthlessly exposed at international level, his indiscipline especially. Only an idiot would rank him above Roby.

The best hooker in Super League right now is Danny Houghton at Hull.

I'd always be dubious of ex players pushing a particular player.

You never know the connections between players and ex-players and agents and companies acting for players.

To many times on Sky you have to question whether a certain player is being pushed by Phil Clarke as he genuinely likes them or are they players on the books of a particular agents. (no names)

As already mentioned Danny Houghton is probably the one to challenge Roby. The comments about Roby are fairly accurate, he seems to be less effective now the game has slowed down around the ruck area. We use to see quite a few breaks from him in a match, we are lucky to see one these days, we know his game has changed but his running into open ground is very limited now.

Honestly? I think Roby lacking distribution skills is a bit like the whole "Newlove can't tackle" thing - not acurate, but almost come about to knock a player who is so srtong in one area, that is (like the rest of his team) not playing at the top of his form.

I'm not saying its the best part of his game, or that he's the best at it in superleague, but I certainly don't think its a problem.

Any hooker (or halfback) will struggle to gain authority on a match if his pack is beaten.

I've got to agree though, that Danny Houghton is an exceptional player. There may well be a case for going back to the old "double pump" hookers with these two.
