We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Point won / Point Lost ??? : Fri Feb 15, 2013 10:45 pm
Well most predicted a close game. So maybe a draw was not such a big surprise.

I wasn't at the game, but it sounded like we were in good shape but lost a bit of discipline with and without the ball in the last quarter. With that in mind it feels a bit like a point lost, but on the whole I think Hull will shake a few sides up this year and a point isn't so bad.

The new young dynasty of super saints is coming to a ground near you.
Welsby-Dodd-Simms-Eaves-Rizzelli, not Eastmond...the future is coming.

Re: Point won / Point Lost ??? : Fri Feb 15, 2013 10:56 pm
Bit like last years game I thought with 2 teams in poor form. If we take out the officials performance we were still abysmal.
Good fast passing game first 15 mins then we gradualling got a total mauling in the play the balls.
Whoever suggested on here that Makinson will make a full back...then think again.
LMS best in the forwards, Turner best in the backs.
Don,t know how to take this game, is it still Work in Progress or maybe worst team than last year.

The fact Hull completely dominated the last 20 minutes as our pack disintegrated means it was a point won.

I am however extremely concerned at our pack at the moment. Its looking very weak.
Huddersfield completely smashed us to pieces and the last 20 minutes against Hull was pretty reminiscent of the Huddersfield match such was the lethargy in the forwards.

The only forwards to emerge with credit were Manu and Wilkin.
The rest are sadly not up to the task at present.

Our backs were also shocking, and the next person who tells me Makinson is a good fullback should be made to watch his ineptness in tonights match from that position.
For the third week running the Josh Jones, Francis Meli combo was exposed for a lack of pace, and struggled to contain the Hull threequarters, just as it had done against Widnes and Huddersfield.

One bright spot was Turner who looked dangerous at centre and scored a good try.
The Turner, Makinson partnership does have the makings of being competent .

We have big big problems as a team though. Our backs have been weak for a number of years but we have been able to rely on a strong pack. The current pack is made of puff pastry and hence the average backs are getting exposed. The halves dont have a chance to perform with a pack going backwards.

Massive point won given the game. I said before the game we'd do well to win, Hull are at least as good and probably a better side than we are. They have much better backs, although most sides in Super League do to be fair.

We started the game in reasonable shape, particularly when the bigger forwards were on. Walmsley came on and was eager to impress and did very well with the ball and defensively. But he's very raw and needs to focus on his play the balls, he came up with two mistakes from play the balls, one in particular where he forgot to bend down. Greenwood was a liability and him coming on at the time he did was a mistake by Brown. He came up with a couple of costly penalties.

Tom Makinson came up with one of the worst brain explosions I have ever seen. He looked to have knocked on recovering a kick through, but the ref signalled it came off his legs. Makinson got up and threw the ball away, thinking he'd knocked on.

As the game went on, the more control Hull had over the game. We only got good field position in their half twice in the second half. We scored from one and Laffranchi put in a woeful kick on the last in the other. That summed us up again, rudderless and completely lacking a leader and an organising half back. By the hour mark we were out on our feet and were extremely lucky to stay in the game. Hull were completely robbed by a forward pass call, that not one person in the crowd called for. Had Briscoe's try been given we'd have lost. Our conditioning was terrible and the pack thoroughly beaten. Roby was completely and utterly outclassed by Houghton, who was absolutely outstanding for them.

The last ten minutes should have been a battle of the drop goal attempts, but in reality we never made it out of our 40 and Hull wasted three attempts at the game winning one pointer.

The problem for you is that it is an ageing pack with nothing coming through to back it up. Savellio looks a good prospect as does Greenwood but it will take a lot more than that. Recruitment has to be a major priority in the next two years.

He made two mistakes, and neither were because he was playing fullback. Had Wellens been on, it would still have been Makinson fielding those balls, because of Wello's lack of mobility. Makinson was returning all the balls throughout the game, even ones kicked to within a few feet of Wello.

Hard to judge a player in a performance like that. Having Wello or even Billy Slater would have made little difference tonight, there was no field position, breaks or expansive play to join in with.

Point lost was best team for 60 mins wello went off team fell apart makinson was shocking a full back greenwood was only on ten mins and his penalties killed us wamsley didn't have to much game time and lost too much ball which lead to sia tp and laffranchi Manu playing long minutes and being shattered after 70 mins

Our backs actually did ok. Honestly the first 60 minutes was encouraging. Sia and Manu were ripping it up, Gaskell and Wilkin were kicking fine and things were rosy. Then, it kinda fell apart.

Makinson doesn't have the hands to be a full back IMO.

I'd personally be looking at the young lad from London (whose name has completely escaped me) - he has pace, is currently playing there for London and looks like a really exciting prospect. He's also OOC at the end of the year.
