I see Salford's knight in shinning armour found his love for rugby league watching his local team St Helens. Wasn't there a supposed bid for Saints from a racing consortium a few years back? Could it have been him or was there an Irish involvement in that supposed bid? Shame in a way because local bazillagillionaire isn't buying Saints, but great to see Salford being saved.

I've said this since the likes of Chelsea and City were purchased. There are no doubt plenty of millionaires who can't quite afford a Premier League football team, but who would love the challenge of owning a British sporting club. The RFL should make rich-bugger-ownership mandatory for all SL clubs.

Indeed, he lives in St Helens as his girlfriend is from here. He has attended quite a few matches in the past.

I'm happy to see him involved with Salford as I've said on other threads, Salford could be a very important club to SL with the Manchester market.

There was a takeover bid from an Irish consortium in 2007. It was rejected straightaway. I remember it because it coincided with Sean McGuire resigning as our chief exec. I am pretty sure the bid didn't have anything to do with this guy who is buying Salford.

In an article I was reading last week, Marwan Koukash said that he always 'doubted' that he would one day be able to own saints because the club is in such good hands and the current owners love owning and running the club.

Emphasis perhaps on current owner seen this in a few RL clubs!

Whilst I wouldn't mind some rich sheikh pouring billions into Saints, I don't think its good for the game as a whole. In football, for every good owner, there are 10 fools, and have seen the likes of portsmouth run into the ground. I would much prefer to see clubs run well, on a sustainable basis, even if this means that we don't have the mega stars playing here. I want Saints to be here long after I am gone, and I think the current big man is going about things in exactly the right way.

That's very true but I don't think that will happen at Salford. Listening to his interviews on SLTV he seems very screwed on with how to make a sporting business sustainable in the long term. Well worth watching if you haven't already done so.

Perchance Mr Koukash will be seeking a refund.

Didn't see that score coming. I though Salford had a good chance of beating the scum; a combination of trying to impress the new regime, first game of the season, etc, and the scum having lost a lot of proven top players and replaced with Joe Average's.

On that performance, Salford for the wooden spoon is a cert.

You're joking, right?

Salford lost all but one of their best players in the off season (or at the end of last season in the case of Matty Smith). Only Jodie Broughton remains. The rest were a collection of u20s, loanees, fringe players and McGoldrick and Gleeson who they have only just picked up. The club was only able to sign players again last week! They have a couple of Aussies on their way over, including a loanee for a few months at halfback, but it's a hodge podge of whatever they can get hold of this season.

gleeson was injured for this game and their other young half (sneyd) was out injured too, they need their new bodies in asap and probably a few more with them
