Anyone know if anything is being done to sort out the distortion problem with the speekers, or whatever the problem is.
Or am I the only one that finds it very annoying?

I doubt anything will be done in the short term, as Saints will have paid a fair wedge of cash for what they have got.

One thing that i have noticed is that when the tannoy issues forth standard announcements of the SYSTEM 888 variety, it is clear as a bell. The problems occur however when playing recorded music or someone speaking from the mike pitch side.

This to my untrained ears makes me think that its not the speakers at fault, but the configuration/compatibility of the rest of the kit they are using.

It sounds like the problem might be at the sound desk rather than with the hardware. It sounds like 'clipping', which comes as a result of the input levels being too high. This can be quite tricky to get right when you're working with a new PA and you're switching from opera singers to pitch announcers. You might find it'll stop happening as the people controlling the desk get used to the equipment and the limitations of the system.

I noticed that too.
They would just need to spend a day running everything and troubleshooting the system.
Would help them do it one day myself if I knew anyone at the club

Voice sounds fine because voice (especially spoken rather than singing voice) takes place between a very limited dynamic range. The moment you open it up to music the dynamic range expands enormously. Electronic music tends to have a much narrower dynamic range than, say, classical which always stretches a sound system to its maximum.

To me it sounds like they have bought a cheap system which is really only meant for announcements. It will have a very limited dynamic range being most effective closer to the treble end (hence the ear-bleed inducing screech) whilst having virtually no bass reproduction.

The tenor came across fine in the West Stand. Poor old Beth at the Leeds match had her voice crucified though. She has a beautiful voice as well. I heard her sing at the England-Wales match at Leigh Sports Village last autumn. Ironic, really, that the LSV has a better sound system than our more expensive Langtree Park.

The PA system is expensive rubbish. £100k yet appears not fit for purpose. I hope we kept the receipt !

It's pathetic. But they know it's pathetic and yet they still book acts that will obviously cause an irritating and horrible noise. You've got a cheapo/broken PA system so which acts do you book? A fire eater? A gymnastics crew? No, a lung busting tennor and a glass breaking female soloist.

Surely when you pay a lot of money for something like this, you are covered by some form of guarantee that it's fit for the purpose it was purchased for?

It sounds like a connection problem to me. It certainly isn't clipping, that would sound far less harsh. I was wondering if it could be heard on other speakers or just the one above us.

However, they were blasting it far too loudly from the first game onwards. We were struggling to hold a conversation pre-match mid-way up the west stand it was so loud, I couldn't understand the need for it to be so deafening for no apparent reason. I actually mentioned at that game that if they keep cranking it like that, it'll go sooner rather than later.
