Look if it's on TV then they make the call. So why we may not want it on a Saturday, thats the day the Beeb have scheduled.
This gives them probably some sporting continuity.
I fail to see why this will take a big hit on the crowds. Crowds for CC games in the early rounds are always smaller than the following weeks SL game.
If anything the fact that the CC game is first may impact on the SL game. If and it's a big if, but if we give Widnes a big stuffing in the CC, that may reduce the appetite for Widnes fans to come to Saints. It will be the 3rd time playing them this year. So in a way we have already tapped that well for widnes fans.
However if it is a close game, then it may really stoke the fires for the following week.
As for Liverpool Everton. I'm sure there will be some cross over fans who cannot make it to both. Some will prioritize the Footy others the Rugby. But in the end this portion of fans is alot smaller than most assume. I would assume the CC game will get 8k whether it was on TV or not.
If Saints really get a run of form going into that match same for Widnes then it could be closer to a sell out.
