It wasn't tripe. What did you want? An England walkover? It was a good hit out for England who, a few players aside, look as average as usual but the French didn't lie down this time, which is good, and I loved watching that young French player - Pelissier? (sp?) - he was a natural. He sparked the whole thing up. Pity Bobby le Goulding didn't bring him on sooner.

And btw the Kiwis were pretty crap last week. I got bored of that match as it was just an Aussie walkover.

Oh yeah, I agree with that. But you didn't say England was tripe; you just said it was the 'usual load of tripe' and then moaned about the match! So I thought you were talking about the match rather than England.

England look pretty much the same because McBanana is simply recycling the same players, many of whom are not international standard. I thought the Saints lads stood up well, as they always do, and I was impressed by Reed and Heighington. Tomkins looked good but I want to see what he does against the Kiwis and Aussies before I'll be convinced he's international quality. Chase offered a couple of beautiful passes but then bombed some too and Sinfield was as Sinfield always is in an international match. When he doesn't have those same players around him he can't adapt.

I like heighinton, he's a very good player.

Who would you suggest that McNamara pick who he ain't picked?

It's too late to 'pick' anyone; he's picked the squad but I wouldn't play the team he played tonight. Widdop at 6 or 7 for starters. He looks good with ball in hand. Sinfield nowhere near the halves. He can't play the halves unless he has his familiar team mates around him. If he has to play then spell him with Roby or stick him at loose. I dunno. Stick him on the East Lancs Road while we're all watching Wales play England. Widdop can kick goals, as can Sam Tomkins.

Meanwhile, JJB is not good enough and shouldn't play again. Get Carvell on the bench so we have beef. He isn't much better but at least he'd have a purpose whereas JJB just liked moaning and dropping the ball. Chase and Yeaman are defensive disasters and so some change needs to be made there. A player who can actually defend needs to swap places with one of them, put it that way. Chase will likely have to play again in the halves as the only other option is McGuire and he's never shown up internationally either.

I'd also pick Pelissier. Stick him in the England side and we'd be talking! :D

Widdop is very good with the ball on hand but very poor in defence.

Not sure I was watchging the same game:

1. The aussie ref as per usual was useless and unduly penalised england - am I paranoid or do they all hate us. 1st French "try" or was it BENTham's fault? Robes alleged strip before the french 1st try in 2nd half?

2. Chase - MOM what a joke; he was mediorcre at best. What was the rabbit punch for with 12 seconds to go? What clown. Did you watch his interview - he came accross as deranged.

3. Reed and Heighington - who? were they actually playing? Reed scored a try but he looks like ben westwood on speed with about as much finesse and made several errors.

4. The only players who performed were Robes (as per usual) Jammer and much to my surprise Peacock and Jones-Buchanan.

5. For some reason Wilkin seemed to always end up with the ball on the last and then kicked badly - just like when he plays for us.

6. Sinfield is not and never has been an international SO - he should be LF where he doesn't need the pace he hasn't got.

7. Yeoman defends like Meli.

8. Hall was outpaced several times for being the musclebound person he is.

1-8 above = we are screwed.

The aussies and the NZ must be wtting themselves with laughter certainly not fear.
Ah well; one more step to mcbanana going - perhaps we will get somebody better next time like goulding.

If anyone likes a bet, you can still get 10/1 on Wales to win for our next game on betfair or more realistically 1/5 against the crims after that.

I don't rate McNamara as a coach one little bit and how he got the England job based on his club level management is a utter joke. The bulls was getting smashed every week, the bulls fans wanted him sacked and was even singing "macca for England".

However, I think he deserves some credit for few things he's put in place. He basically begged all super league clubs to allow the exiles game, he wanted the season starting earlier so we finish earlier so the squad has few weeks together before the four nations, he did what other countries (including the Aussies) have done and found good quality players in that ain't English including the current man of steel and also he's had the squad get together much more during the season.

The English knights is also a very good idea for the young upcoming players to have a little taste of international rugby and also being involved with the first team squad.

I think McNamara has put some good things in place but it's not vital he and the England team can put it together on the field.
