We can work on that side of the team the following season. No need to rush things.

Is this an admission that Shenton's not been the great centre you hoped he would be?

I must say each and every time he comes up against Wigan and Carmont, he's been anonymous for mine, and very much a turn style in defense.

Even in the televised games of Saints I've seen this year he's been nothing but average. I can't think of one single instance where I've seen him terrorize his opposite number in a game.

I don't mean to flog a dead horse, but its never shenton that marks carmont, its the half back - shenton defends one in.

Shenton's positional defence seems very good, but he has had the tendency to miss some shockers one on one - Hoffman at the DW and Gilmour away at hudds stick in my mind.

He's been denied the chance to make it up with attacking play as we struggle to get the ball to the right with any fluencey. When he gets chances close to the line he generally takes them.

I like the way you use this as a cover to remove Wellens from the team!! Maybe that should be more of a headline? But otherwise, I think the idea of shifting Shenton to the wing to accomodate Soliola is not a bad idea at all. His contribution so far this season has been minimal.

My apologies. Your right. Lomax marked Carmont at the DW, and Gaskell marked him at Widnes. Both unsuccessfully.

I can appreciate the you don't feel he receives good ball. But I've watched Shenton versus Wigan three times now, and on each occasion he's made little to no contribution like a good centre should. I've also watched every TV game to include Saints this year and he's remained very much anonymous in those games also IMO. But never the less there should be some signs, some kind of spark visible from time to time to show what a good player he is. But I've yet to see it, this season anyway.

*Edit* I've just realized reading through my post that I've just repeated pretty much I posted earlier.

I think most Saints fans will agree they've been dissapointed, but few would blame Shenton himself. For me, he's a guy whose centre play depends on him getting smooth ball so he's taking the ball moving. We manage this for Meli on the other side, but we just don't get the ball to the right in that manner. Its like that side is an after thought. A centre like Willie Talau may still manage to make an impression in this situation with strength in contact, but not a "strike centre" like Shenton.

If we fed him like we do Meli, I think he'd reaffirm his status as an England player. It doesn't help having rookie half backs, I guess. Its one of the thing we have to work on.

Was a bit disappointed IL didn't match Saints offer for Shenton (his words not mine) but looks like it was a good decision. Done nothing to look like an international centre from what Ive seen.
