Looking to Huddersfield : Sun May 08, 2011 11:04 pm
I can see us having serious problems against Brough's kicking game. With Ashe now unlikely to play it may have to be Armstrong slotting in and he has looked nervous at times under the high ball. To his credit, when he takes them he returns him well, but I'm a little worried that Brough will absolutely pepper him.

Will Jamie Foster be slotted in at Full Back with Armstrong on the wing? That would personally be my preference.

Then there's the issue of who will play Half Back with Jon, will it be another U20's call up in the shape of Ben Karalius? I don't see who else it could be.

I don't think there's anybody due back from injury this week unless Tommy Makinson has recovered from the dead leg. So with Kyle, Ashe and Dixon added to the injury list we could be in serious trouble against Huddersfield.

Re: Looking to Huddersfield : Mon May 09, 2011 6:02 am
Our utterly ridiculous injury situation is bound to catch up with us one day, and this might be the day! (But I said that against Hull and we scraped a point) You're right about the possible effects of Brough's kicking game and personally I'd trust Foster with it more than Armstrong, who works hard but the switch from centre to fullback hasn't gone all that well for him. Probably needs a lot more practice there but we don't have time to give it to him really, given the importance of the match against Hudds.

The halves are a real problem but I'm not convinced Kyle is that injured. Given that Lee Gaskell played on with a broken ankle and Magennis with a broken nose, Kyle whinged about a hurt finger against Hull and sulked when he wasn't taken off (even though we were already struggling). I'm to be convinced there is anything much wrong with him but if he is actually injured then it may well be that Royce plans on giving a real youngster a go in the first team with Jon Wilkin as babysitter!

Rumours have it Lomax will play, with TP and Wello returning. Looks like we'll be strong enough to me.

are we not fit enough to take the knocks!

I take no notice of rumours. Until I see it confirmed otherwise on the Saints site, we're down a ton of players with possibly only Wello and TP returning.

Let's hope no-one picks up injuries at the England camp this week. Damn annoying that has come along when it has, just when we need Saints mark 366 to be learning how to play together in readiness for what will be a heavy contest at the weekend.

Has Armstrong been poor? Granted I haven't seen as much of him than most on here, but the only thing worthy of criticism was that one dropped bomb against Hull He's looked good to me and although it will be a test of his ability/character if he plays FB (out of position) against Hudds he looks a confident enough player to handle it to me.

I think we've a chance regardless of injuries, the effort the players have been putting in has been first class and Hudds aren't playing too great ATM. That said the halfback situation is a big worry against a Hudds defence that is tighter than most.

He made an almighty mess up of one kick by Sheffield, leading to a try for them. He was very upset with himself, thumping the ground twice. He was moved to the wing and Jamie Foster took over fullback duties. Armstrong is a centre and it was tough on him to be called in to cover fullback, but that's the problem with having so many injuries. If Wello, Makinson and Ashe are not available against Hudds, I'd rather have Foster there. He is going to need help with defensive duties as he's still too slight really but other than that I think he will go well there. However, I am keeping everything crossed that Wello will be back, with Makinson on the bench. (Dream on me!)

I can, in Paul Cullen's last season at the Wire we had 9 of our first 13 out injured at one point.
Of our four 1st choice bench players we had two missing. So from our 1st choice 17 we had only 6 players to select from.
